Hello!

We put our three year old to bed at 7.30 pm. Some people say this is too late. What do you think for different age groups?

  • This is just a guide
Age Range Recommended Hours of Sleep (NSF) Recommended Bedtime
    7-11 months old 12 to 16 hours 6:00 pm – 7:30pm
    1-2 years old 11- 14 hours 6:00 pm -7:30pm
    3-5 years old 10-13 hours 7:15 pm – 8:30pm
    6-13 years old 9-11 hours 7:15p.m-9:00pm

  • it depends on the family commitments and also if the child still has day sleeps and also his/her sleep requirements to get through the next day.

  • At age three, my kids were in bed at seven. School age it moved to seven thirty and got a little later as they got older

  • My kids have always had a 7.30 bedtime. This works for us. Are the people telling you this both working? It’s not too late and my kids are both fine with this time and have been since babies. You need to have a routine that works for you.

  • I think 7.30 pm is a reasonable time for a three year old. If he/she starts getting restless before this time, then maybe a little earlier would be better.

  • Between 7:30pm and 8pm would be ideal for me, but my youngest has other ideas! No matter how late she goes to bed, she gets up early, haha! I’ll be aiming for 8pm at the latest, likely to start at 7:30pm and hope for being asleep by 8pm. It’s hard with my older kids going to bed a bit later, as she wants to stay up with them.

  • Around 7.30 most nights by the time she is actually in bed. She often has a short afternoon nap on the school pick up run, on the way to visit somebody or on the way home. It depends a bit on what shifts we are both working. The 8 year old usually goes to bed around 8.00 as she tends to wake up early. Her school gives homework that is handed in weekly. She is sometimes allowed to stay up a bit later on Sat. nights

  • I think that is a perfectly acceptable time! My 3.5yo is in bed by 7.30-8pm every night.
Don’t you just love how everyone has an opinion on your parenting?! NOT!

  • My daughter is 4 years old and goes to bed at 7pm every night. 7pm has always been bedtime from when she was a baby until now.

  • 7:30 or 8 is a standard bed time

  • We try for bed at 7pm but usually not sleep til 7:30-8… Is your child grumpy irritable during the day? If she’s not then that time is fine but I noticed if I put my child down later the next day was hell..! !

  • My three year old is in bed at 6.30. She’s usually plum tuckered out by then. Some children cope quite well with later bedtimes. If yours is functioning ok with a 7.30 bedtime, keep with it

  • We aim for 7:00 but the kids aren’t usually asleep until closer to 8:00, so do what works best for you I say!

  • It depends on many things such as what time your 3 year old wakes, how many and how long are the naps and how busy a day he has had.

  • My son is 2 & half, his bedtime is between 7-8pm.
Don’t let people tell you what time is right or wrong for you guys. Do what you feel is best.
We settled with our routine as my son usually puts himself to bed at that time! :)

  • I guess 8pm is good enough

  • 6-7pm depending on child.

  • 7pm

  • 7 to 7.30 was the time my kids went to bed at the age of 3. It all depends on the child, watch for their indocators of tiredness or if they still have a day time nap.

  • 6pm
