Hello!

I need some help. I’m on my own for Christmas day. I’m looking for easy, no fuss, lunch & dinner ideas for one. Something special, but not anything that I will have to spend hours preparing or cleaning up after. If you were on your own what would you have?

  • Slow cooked mini roast from the slow cooker or I would go to the pub and spoil myself

  • Taste is very personal. I would simply pick foods you really love.

  • Thanks for the ideas everyone. I ended up having …

Breakfast – Sticky Date Pancakes with walnuts and maple syrup
Lunch – antipasto & cheese grazing platter (I have lots of leftovers now lol). Dessert was my Christmas icecream, I had leftover icecream from Christmas lunch with my parents the week before. Its homemade vanilla icecream mixed with crushed christmas pudding (woolies brand) & dried fruits & liquors, topped with chocolate topping (ice magic) and fresh fruits.
Dinner – pizza. Homemade tortilla (made previously and frozen) topped with sambal oeleck, roasted capsicum slices, an egg, and parmesan. More icecream for dessert :)
Christmas treats – gingerbread cookies given to me by a friend. She shaped them into little people and christmas decorations. And a few bits of chocolate ginger that my Mum had given me.

    It was a lovely day.

  • I’d have nice croissants with coffee for breakfast then something like nachos for lunch and a premise meal like lasagne for dinner

  • I would think about my all time favourite foods. So my meal would be crumbed steak and veg with cheese sauce followed by a yummy pavlova. Then a few quiet drinks on the couch watching my favourite shows

  • If I had Christmas on my own I would have prawns and salad for lunch and maybe soup or toast for dinner with ice cream and chocolates to snack on during the day.

  • When I was having Christmas alone, I’d buy a couple of cheese and bacon rolls from BAker’s Delight (because I love them), and a box of chocs, and whatever drink appealed to me. And I’d have a really simple lunch and then loll around with a book and my chocs and drink.

  • Every time you prepare for Christmas with family and friends, you no doubt inevitably end up cooking and providing food to cater to the tastes of others. But Christmas alone means that it is all about YOU this year. What do you want to eat and drink? Get it all. Don’t scrimp, pamper yourself and it special. Celebrate with a glass of champagne and toast yourself.

  • I hope you had a nice solo Christmas. We weren’t seeing the family on Christmas day, so we had loaded baked potatoes at home, then headed to the local lake for a swim.

  • Takeaway or even go out to city and eat in

  • I was on my own with my daughter this year. I organised all my favourite cheese board foods and did a cheese board to nibble on all day with a nice bottle of bubbles.

  • Also hope top shelf chocolates and sweet treats feature on the menu.

  • Can’t do Christmas without a ham! So i would definitely have that. Maybe some cheese and a few prawns at night to go with it.

  • I would cook my favourite meal and make a special dessert like a lemon and lime tiramisu. I also like the suggestions the others already made, like a platter style lunch.

  • All my favourite!

Pancakes with strawberries and cream for breakfast.
Platter style lunch with dip, antipasto ????
Chocolate pudding and whipped cream for dessert

  • A cold spread of food is always nice and easy; cold ham, chicken & other meats, selection of cold salads, selections of crackers and cheeses and mini pavlova or similar easy dessert.

  • I love solo days of any kind, this would be my day food and beverage wise
    – pancake breakfast with coconut yoghurt and fresh fruit (leftovers for boxing day or freeze) with loose leaf fancy tea
    – cheese and crackers snack platter for brunch time with sparkling wine (you can get nice alcohol free versions too) video chat with the family/friends or text your well wishes
    – marinate (olive oil, your favourite herbs) and roast a single chicken breast with some veges or a salad, you can roast the veges first and put the chicken breast on top for the last 15-20 mins so its a one pan deal and a glass of red wine
    – microwave a cake in a mug (packet mixes or some really good recipes found online) with some cream or ice cream, for a gooey centre put a fun size mars bar in the middle :)
    – christmas movies or binge some tv shows and go to bed early.
    Have a wonderful christmas.

  • Id make up an antipasto platter and basically just graze n drink wine. Mini cob loafs r also pretty fuss free. I love the woolworths app for fresh idea recipes and there r heaps of easyish dishes

  • I’d buy my favourite Xmas things like a mini Xmas pudding, Fresh leg ham, prawns etc but just in that small quantity. I’d pick a good book to read or a series to binge watch.
I’d also consider volunteering at a local lunch if you feel you may want company.

  • Pasta, salad, fish. Orgnise a Zoom call and have dinner with friends, just like COVID-19 lockdown!
