I loved my kids’ cot…it was worth every cent. It lasted all 3 kids and it converted to a toddler bed so was used for that too. I probably wouldn’t waste my time with an extremely expensive pram. I had 3 different prams and only used each one for about 6 months before changing to a smaller, layback stroller because it was easier to travel with.

There is some babyseats that are sold in NSW that have just been announced as not as safe as they should be. I reember it is an expensive brand but can’t remember its brand. Britax make very safe convertable baby seats with adjustable head height and a few seatbelt slots for body height adjustment. They are sold as a few different brand names as some companies has amalgamated with them. I know a Police Officer who was called to a fatal accident. The car was a write-off, not just an economic write-off. The baby’s carseat was correctly fitted and the baby restrained properly. The baby didn’t have a mark on him. He was rushed to hospital for xrays and observation. He had no broken bones or injuries at all. He was discharged and the grandparents were granted custody of him. The Police Officer told us he felt sick in his stomach when he spotted the babyseat and it took all his dedication and determination to check the baby. He was breathing but asleep. He woke up as he was being put in the ambulance.

Definitely my pram. Absolutely worth every penny

Set us back $700 but car safety is so so important and we never had a budget just got the top carsear available

Yes I think a good quality car seat, so assuring!

A stroller with adjustable back support that is easy to wheel around in “tight” spots, “corners” easily and a hood that extends far enough to shelter baby’s face etc. from sun and strong winds. Also check the height of the handles. Some are quite low and you tend to stoop while pushing it along. Ensure it is not too heavy to lift in and out of your car boot, and to fold up and put up.

I was told not to skimp on the pram if I could afford it. And it was recommended to me that I try and get one that’s not too wide (for ease when shopping). So I looked around the shops and found a few I liked and then went online and bought one at a cheaper price. It’s been a great investment!

The other major investment (aside from nursery furniture) was a carseat. We went to the baby expo and got a great one for 25% off. I was feeling bamboozled by the thought of choosing a carseat so we got one of the staff to go through and explain things to us which helped a lot! There are cheaper seats in the market but I didn’t want to risk it with our baby’s safety.

I did buy a compact swing which I probably wouldn’t bother with if I had my time again. A friend really recommended them but my girl didn’t really take to it. Thankfully it wasn’t a big, expensive one and I also bought it online so it was cheaper than usual too. Phew!

The item we spent the most on was the pram ( Baby Jogger City Elite) and I don’t regret it one bit, I don’t drive so I use it everyday and its big enough to keep holding him for a long time as well as the bassinet attachment for when he was little.

It will have to be the car seat for us, it give me peace of mind knowing that Bub is in a good quality car seat while I am driving her around.

Invest in a good pram. It’s something you could use every day so make sure it’s easy to use and suits you.

A decent pram – I walked everywhere when my boys were little so this was really important to me.

A pram and a steriliser were the best investments for us.

The cot. This was something we put away and saved for the next baby. All other items were brought new.

What is grass for the bottles? I have never heard of it! Sounds good though. I think our biggest expense item was buying a house on land[ included ] . The grand total of $ 13,554 . It was a lovely14 square home with 3 large bedrooms.!

Cot to toddler bed for sure!

Definitely our swing it saved us!!! My daughter would not fall asleep unless she was being held so we bought a swing and we put her in it we were amazed with in a few minutes she was asleep, she now sits in it and we rock it as it can be taken off and turns into a rocker and seat for older babies. The other thing is the grass for your bottles, I absolutely love it.

A travel system with the carrier that fits to a stroller! I wish I’d had one for my first two – it made life so much easier with a sleeping baby and school runs etc.

Also, I was given a nappy wrapper and while I might never have bought one, it was brilliant and great at cutting down smells in the nursery (and also in the wheelie bin at the end of the week!)

I bought most of the stuff on the list and used less than half! Ignore the list and ask fellow mums!!!
My best buy was my feeding chair. It rocks it’s super comfortable and worth every penny. The high arms helped with breast feeding too. The other items I got were a change table with draws, cot and shelving to store books etc we got as presents.
My advice would be wait till you have your baby shower. Sometimes you get some good big items. I got a bouncer which is great for when you need a shower etc pop them in and your good to go!

My Rumba vaccum cleaner. I have a cronic back problems and my Rumba is a gem. Thought I was mad spending so much on a vaccum but has been well worth every cent. Stay away from the cheap cheap versions fellow mums
