I’m so envious of the treasures some people have found, a decent pram would be lovely! I haven’t lived in an area that does verge pick up for yonkies. Heavily built up estates don’t tend to have them, I guess it would cost too much money for the council to go to hundreds of homes within a small distance. We go to the dump instead and allow the dump shop to go through everything first. At least the fees aren’t very high here

Verge pickups can be like treasure hunts! My best find was a perfectly good wooden kids’ table and chairs set that just needed a quick sand and paint—it’s been a hit in our house ever since. I’ve also picked up a working coffee machine once and even some barely-used outdoor toys for the kids.

It’s amazing what people throw out, and giving those items a second life feels so satisfying. Plus, it’s great for the environment! I try to keep an eye out for anything with potential and love upcycling when I can. What’s been your favorite upcycling project from verge finds?

Nothing really. But I’m always amazed at what people do throw away. Some of the stuff is perfectly good just we don’t need it. I think bikes are one of the main things I see out. Old rusty things but which could be got working so easily if you knew what you were doing.

I love seeing what people take from my pile when we put out hard rubbish.

I cannot resist driving past a pile of goodies on the verge without having a sticky beak. I have found so many good things and made use of them or sold them on. The best find was a queen Anne style kidney shaped dressing table, complete with drawers, 3 sectioned mirror and matching stool. I wanted to take the handles off to go on a piece of furniture I had at home and when I saw how good it was I squeezed it into my hatchback. I ended up cleaning it up and put it on eBay where numerous people bid on it. I got $200 and saved it from going to the tip.

we have found a few things, picked up some chairs and i painted them and they looked great. also found a punching bag (kids loved it) and a basketball ring just needed a new net.

SO much stuff! Bits and pieces but the best one I found was a ping pong table – nothing wrong with it!!!!!

I have seen really good children’s toys, bikes and trikes. I didn’t have a need for them though.

Where I live, what’s thrown out for hard garbage collection really is trash! But my son gets heaps from the area he lives. He got a whole heap of Xmas decorations one year, including a train that goes round the tree, most of the stuff was still in the packets….unopened. He’s got an outdoor setting. A barbecue that he fixed up a little bit. He’s got a couple of fridges. Most things he picks up are still in their box. Some things he keeps, some he sells off, some need fixing up but most are good to go

Wow that’s an awesome find. Mostly furniture. I know someone who used to collect fridges that were broken and fix them.

Great for the pram. I found an old bed frame. We painted it and used it in our bedroom.
