I think 3yrs is a perfect age gap. They’re out of nappies and can feed themselves and aren’t on the boob. My kids have 3yrs apart and it worked out great. The older child always wants to help which is great and they’re there to support them too. But as previous commenters have stated any age gap is great.

I only have one child but if i was to have a second, I would ideally like them to be close in age so they grow up together and can share the experiences together as kids. I think this also helps them develop their relationship more when they are closer in age than a few years apart.

Personally I liked my kids to be close in age so they get to go to school together and be there for each other. That being said I grew up with an older sibling so we had quite a gap which meant we weren’t at school together etc so this has affected my preference

I don’t think there’s one “perfect” age gap because every family is different. What’s most important is that parents are emotionally, physically and financially ready for another child. Whether it’s 18 months or 10 years, a loving and supportive home matters far more than the number of years between siblings.

I believe, like ChWren, that there is no such thing as an ideal age gap. I also believe that it also depends on the circumstances, that what is ideal for someone else may not be ideal for you. Between our first and our second is an age gap of 12 months and 3 weeks. The first year was quite busy but doable, and I loved to see what a close bond they had. And growing up, they always had a playmate

I don’t think there is such thing as an ideal gap, it’s what ever works well for your family. I have varying age gaps between my 3 siblings and we had our teething moments growing up but are now all besties. We go anywhere between 2 to 9 years depending on each of us.
