Hello!

Hi I’m just wondering when are you meant to stop sterilising bottles while they are still in use, or do you need to sterilise them right up until they are no longer being used? I am not quiet sure what to do, any help please ?

  • If you continuously use your bottles for milk, I see no harm in continuing with sterilising. It would put your mind at ease that tge bottles are safe for baby to use

  • We were told up to 12 months old and then after that you can just wash and dry then normally without sterilising . Just check any concerns with your childhood nurse .

  • I stopped at 6 months and just used hot soapy water.

  • up to you really if its there use it if its taking up bench space get rid of it lol

  • Nurse told us when we had daughter that if washed properly or in dish washer they don’t need sterilised. I would say it depends on your child and their immune system.

  • I think you should sterilise them for at least 8 months. I can’t remember how long we did them for. After that we washed them in hot soapy water, rinsed them with plenty of hot water and put them opening down on a clean towel to dry and covered them with another one. The teats were done the same way and put in a container, also covered with a towel to dry- so they didn’t get insects or dust on them. There was building sites nearby and even with windows and doors closed it managed to drift in quite a lot.

  • Up to you, there’s no rule.

  • If they eat food from an unsterilised spoon, then they can drink from an unsterilised bottle. That’s just what I went by!

  • I would continue until you no longer bottle feed

  • we stopped once they went onto cows milk and started crawling around and dropping their bottle on the ground themselves

  • I still do it sometimes now. No hard and fast rules. Just go with what u are comfortable

  • I was told sterilizing really isn’t necessary, certainly once but is a few weeks old anyway. Thorough cleaning and boiling in water is enough – but check with your MCHN

  • lol, with my first son I strealised everything! heehee…
My third son is 2 and I didn’t steralise a thing with him, all the bottles etc went in the dish washer or just washed them in the sink :)
I was comfortable with that though, so you really have to go with what YOU are comfortable with.

  • Its a personal choice, if your child is healthy and starting to drink from an unsterilised cup, I would stop sterilising.

  • My daughter stopped sterilising around the 3-4 months

  • I was told that they don’t encourage sterilising now…

  • i hope you found an answer

  • Hope you found the answer you were after.

  • It is really up to you – we still steralise but have less bottles as the sippy cups don’t get steralised.

  • how did you go? :)
