Hello!

I’m physically disabled but love craft and art, I’m keen on tie dying but most fabric dyes cost at least $10-$20 a colour for not that much I have two daughters with Autism 18 and 17 so I want to have enough for them but being on pensions it gets costly most of supplies I get from op shops and specials but I’ve been unable to find cost effective dyes as we’re not selling them it’s for ourselves or gifts. Can anyone please give me any and all ideas for cost effective fabric dye pretty please.

  • Maybe try Temu or Kmart. I’ve been looking in the salvos stores for things I want my family to be able to do but are too expensive to afford brand new.

  • Charlie and boots have cheap the dye kits or kmart.also try advertising or looking on your local facebook marketplace just ask I am sure people will offer you any they have left over.with the purchased kits only mix up 1/2 the amounts at a time so they are not wasted.happy crafting ????

  • What about using some natural dyes? Some flowers and leaves can leave great vibrant colours. Fruits too. Look into natural dyeing. It’s lots of fun to collect the items too. Just need a mordant like soda ash to help set the colours. There would definitely be a book in the library to find out more. And best part is it won’t break the bank!

  • Ebay are pretty good. I had to buy a few packets recently and it was pretty cheap.

  • Kmart has cheap packs. A small 4 pack is $6

  • Spotlight and kmart are relatively decent priced!

  • Kmart and Spotlight have these and they’re cheap and affordable too. Kmart have kits which come with a whole set of fabric and dyes so you won’t even have to source your own fabric

  • I bought a kit from Eckersley Art when on special. It is a big box and will last a while. I always buy art and craft supplies when on special and the there is a significant price reduction.

  • Did u check market place on Facebook?

  • I don’t use these so don’t have a specific suggestion – but maybe Google around and try to find bulk suppliers? They don’t always need you to buy ridiculous quantities but can be handy if you want larger quantities of something.

  • Definitely check amazon because they will deliver too.

  • The only place I know of that even sells fabric dye is Spotlight, and I’ve no idea of cost. Online usually has cheaper options, although beware of quality

  • If you are close to the area of Cabramatta they have HEAPS of fabric shops which sell them for cheap – $5 would be the most you’d pay.

  • Spotlight have a 18 colour kit for $49 atm. Ebay is great aswell, have you looked into using powders instead?

  • My sons recently loving tie dying and I was on the hunt as well. This was a great pack. Which worked out $4 ish a bottle. The colours were just lovely and vibrant! Recommend this pack. It’s also free shipping with a catch membership.

  • I’d look at Spotlight, officeworks, or somewhere online like amazon
