Australia has some fantastic snow destinations that cater to families on a budget. One of the most popular options is Mt. Buller in Victoria. It’s close to Melbourne, which means less travel time and expense. They offer a variety of accommodations, including budget-friendly apartments or lodges. For families, you can save by opting for self-contained units and cooking your own meals. Mt. Buller also has beginner-friendly slopes and fun snow activities like tobogganing.

Another great option is Thredbo or Perisher in New South Wales, located in the Snowy Mountains. While they’re a bit pricier, staying in nearby towns like Jindabyne can significantly reduce costs. Jindabyne offers affordable accommodations, and you can drive up to the snowfields each day. These areas also offer free snow play areas for kids, so you don’t need to spend on lift passes if skiing isn’t a priority.

Cradle Mountain in Tasmania is stunning. Lots of different accommodation available too, so I’m sure you would find something suitable

Thredbo and Perisher are the places I know of.

Mt Buller is great. Close to Mansfield to which is a cute little town with a zoo if your after another activity for the kids whilst your away.

Hotham in Victoria has great powder and is generally pretty good value compared to some of the other Vic ski fields.

Vic – snowy mountains! Look for an apartment if staying over night that is cheaper for families. NSW – Thredbo, perisher, Mt selwyn is good for families too.

Perisher is a great family location but not sure about cost as I’ve never been as an adult.
