Hello!

I get confused as to which type of ham to buy to make a tasty glazed ham. Any suggestions?

  • We buy a large leg ham at Christmas!

  • I just buy the big leg of ham each year

  • Any ham is yummy glazed! If you’re looking for a Christmas ham, most people have big family gatherings, so a big leg of ham is the way to go. Not so good if there’s not many of you

  • is the shank the leg ? lol i brought the leg and your recipe sounds delish

  • Your very welcome Stephrat, I hope you enjoy it! Happy Christmas!

  • Thank you so much for your detailed reply, Ashblonde!

  • It can be any brand, Woolies have them on special ATM . My favourite glaze is apricot jam (1 cup), brown sugar (1/2 cup), 1 tblsp French mustard, juice of 1 orange & 1 lemon. Firstly, I heat the whole ham for an hour & a half sitting on a rack with boiled water underneath in large baking dish, with grated lemon & orange rind & cloves then covered completely with foil, cook for 1 hour. Then uncover & remove the rind on ham & score the fat into a diamond pattern, stud each diamond with a clove & then glaze & cook on high 20 mins then lower temp for another hour until golden.

  • Does the name type of the ham matters?

  • I like the shank as it has the bone (like a handle) & it is easier to carve.
