Hello!

Every year I feel as though education stops part way through term 4. I understand reports get written early, but seriously!!!! It’s only week 4 and already things seem to be winding down. I’m not quite ready for Christmas carols and the like just yet. My child likes the routine that school brings, and all the talk of the year ending and what will happen next year are confusing for little ones. Any thoughts?

  • This doesn’t happen at our school. Maybe you should discuss this concern with your child’s teacher.

  • Must just be your school, I guess some are slacker then others. But this doesn’t happen in all schools

  • Oh our school hasn’t wound down much at all!

  • yes they stop exams but the tests are being marked at this point so that report cards can be finalised and sent home. Teachers have a lot of kids to deal with especially the sports and music ones :)

  • I always found that the teaching tends to wind down part way through the final year, they seem to have camps and excursions and DVD days etc. Which is ok, to celebrate the end of the year, but I think it’s started too early

  • at my kids school the learning for the current year level is ending and they are commencing preparation for the next year. the teacher goes through the new expectations and starts to work on the new routines for the next year. it is also because the children are getting tired for the year and are unfocused with the looming Christmas period. I can understand where you are coming from – teachers don’t stop teaching completely but it changes to a lot more behavioural and celebratory teaching activities.

  • I agree, my daugher’s class (grade 2) have already started learning christmas carols! – I wish that the money I spend having them educated wasn’t so easily dismissed when term 4 starts! I am paying good money for them to be taught from 9 to 3 every day they attend. Add on all the extra $$$ for this and that that the school needs to fundraise for and I feel like I am paying for the teachers holidays! – I wish that the kids were worked as hard as we were going to school – unfortunately I think that political correctness and the fear that everyone knows their rights is really making schools and education soft.

  • By the time final exams are over, I guess everyone – kids, teachers, parents – are in need of some down time, especially with the warmer weather and the holidays round the corner.

  • youngoldlady – this can happen in all professions and areas. Some people do burn out and need to change career. Most are dedicated and good and they spend hours outside of school hours working. A big thanks to any teachers in this community for your work.

  • My children who have attended school it seems that there was a slowing down in 4th term of teaching but other things were introduced. The same seems to happen in High school too, like the teachers seem to need a break or do not care. I know most teachers work had but you have others who seem to not care.

  • Teachers and kids are all exhausted by the middle of term 4. It is a lovely time to wind down and relax and enjoy excursions and a slower pace. A big thanks to all the teachers that work tirelessly throughout the year! :)

  • I imagine each school is a little different, my child has not stopped working and talking about activities at school yet, there are assemblies to attend and concerts to get ready for and all in all school is still going with my child

  • It seems that way! The last half of the year seems to be taken up with events and school camp. It feels like they are home more than at school this term!
