Hello!

I bought a Ned Kelly passionfruit vine from a nursery about two years ago. It has grown into a healthy plant and I keep findling new little vines growing in the vicinity, but as far as fruit goes – Nothing! What am I doing wrong?

  • Update: I ended up removing the plant when we put in a new boundary fence, and have not replanted another variety yet.

  • Passionfruit is renowned for suckering. Try to keep on top of it if it as the house we bought had a lovely old passionfruit vine which now is suckering everywhere! The flowers are lovely it’s just a shame they don’t fruit.

  • not sure, maybe ask the nursery for advice!

  • Thanks everyone. I think MoM165081 might have nailed it. It does grow well and flower well, but lacks fruit. I will leave it for another year and if there’s no fruit, I’ll probably remove it and replace it with another type of passionfruit plant.

  • I’ve got a lot of flowers, but very few passion fruits! :-(

  • I have read that the Ned Kelly vine is prone to suckering and that the root stock (suckers) do not fruit, but grow and flower well – this could be your problem. See the article “How to grow passionfruit” on homelife.com.au

  • Is it flowering? Be patient. We have had ours for a few years now and we only got a few fruit off it last year.

  • I too have a Ned Kelly passionfruit vine that is growing extremely well, and flowers profusely. The first year I had it, it fruited wonderfully and we had so much fruit that I couldn’t give it away. However for the past two years I have had no fruit at all even though it is still flowering well. I put it down to the fact of a lack of bees around the area to pollinate the flowers.

  • Not sure. Sone plants have to reach a certain level of maturity before they fruit, that could be one suggestion. Or maybe it’s lacking vital vitamins or minerals and needs a good fertilise. Growing your own is incredibly rewarding but also frustrating. Persevere, it will be worth it
