Hello!

That’s $200 per month!

My hubby and his parents have come up with an AMAZING business idea! They will iron 4 of his shirts per week for a mere $50.

Here’s the best bit- I still get to walk around the house searching for his shirts, then wash and dry them.

Currently he irons his own shirts- and I’ve now offered to do it for him… at half the price of his parents. Unfortunately though he doesn’t want to take me up on my offer.

I’m now questioning WHY I’m expected to do anything for this man for FREE especially if he’s so willing to PAY his parents…

As a side note I probably should mention that I’d be more supportive of this idea if his parents actually needed the extra money. As it stands, they don’t- and where does one magically come up with an additional $200 per month to pay for something so unnecessary!?

  • Oh wow, I get why you’d be scratching your head here! If he’s willing to pay his parents $50 for four shirts a week, it really makes you wonder why he’s not taking up your half-price offer—and why he’s even paying for something he could do himself! I mean, if his parents genuinely needed the money, it would be easier to understand, but that’s not the case here.

Honestly, $200 a month for ironing seems steep, especially when that money could go toward so many other things. Maybe he’s valuing the idea of someone else doing it because he thinks it’s “official” if it’s coming from outside the home. But maybe this is a chance to have a chat about what each of you contributes at home and what’s worth outsourcing. Who knows, it might be a chance to find some middle ground—or even free up some time for both of you with a fair, shared plan.

  • Wow! No, I wouldn’t!

  • Wow, that’s a lot of money ! But sounds he likes the idea and wants to supports his parents. Don’t take it personally and let him go ahead if he’s willing to put that amount of money down

  • I think that $50 for 4 shirts is rich when I know people doing a full basket for $25-30

  • No l wouldn’t pay that amount!

  • Haha that is so lazy of him! My husband irons his own shirts. If he couldn’t though I would because we can’t afford that sort of money. Sounds like the parents are fully taking advantage too

  • Wow. Tell him if he wants to waste money like that it’ll come out of his spending money not the household budget AND STOP DOING THINGS FOR HIM. He’s a grown man with the same number of hours in his day as you, he can take care of his home (and himself) too, you’re his wife not his mother.

  • definitely not in the position to pay that much, I will do it myself.

  • I’m sorry No that is too much in my eyes. Honestly I would of thought that $5 per shirt should be ample, especially if your the one washing and drying them. If you put them through the dryer and then hang them straight away they won’t need much ironing either

  • Snort. No but I think that’s a rip off. I would probably pay $50 a month!

  • wow….. I’d make sure i got good at ironing if I could get paid that much.

  • No. Fortunately no one in our house wears shirts that need ironing.

  • This sounds quite fishy to me. A big load of weekly ironing including all clothes, linen etc I’d pay $50 but only 4 shirts – crazy!?!?!?

  • This sounds pretty weird! Are you sure they don’t need the money and this is his way of helping them out and letting them save face at the same time? If they don’t need the money it’s strange that there would be a commercial arrangement here – my dad used to iron shirts for me when he was alive and he would never have dreamed of being paid, he did it for love (and because he was amazing at ironing!) If he needs his shirts done surely a laundry service would be cheaper!?

  • Think that maybe there’s more to this than you realise. I think he has to pay back a loan to them and doesn’t want to let you know that he borrowed money from them. He isn’t a gambler is he? Hope you get it all sorted out soon.

  • No way, this is ridiculous! Get him to do it himself lol! Or a better investment is him buying the shirts that you hang up and they don’t need ironing at all.

  • Wow! No way! That’s an insane amount, especially for a family member! It’s only 4 shirts!? Get him to keep doing them himself!

  • No way would I be paying that, I would just wash them and hang them on the hanger on the line and wallah! No need to iron.

  • Do you do a budget that involves personal “spending money”? Ask him to pay for it out of his personal money. He might change his tune very quickly.

  • No, you can get it cheaper then that but if you feel that’s what you want to spend on dry cleaning then that’s your choice.
