Hello!

Would you pay for someone to cover your kids school books for you? What do you think is an acceptable price to pay?

  • No I didn’t, I always did it myself and when the kids were a little older taught my kids to do it themselves.

  • I enjoy covering school books so I wouldn’t pay someone else to do it.

  • NO WAY! For the first year I covered them but then taught the children. They take great delight in doing their own books. There is no way I would take that pleasure and ownership away from them. We also use contact but not in the way you would expect. They have found the book LASTS BETTER if you use the contact as old fashioned brown paper and cover the book with the contact still stuck to its backing. You can sellotape the flaps down if you need and the book is protected with an enhanced stiffened layer, so much better than just clear contact. Some covers can be reused again too. We got some cheap rolls of contact for 50c in the after back-to-school sale and have been using them for years. No I would not pay someone!

  • I believe some schools use volunteers to cover their library books to protect them. I know a school mum who did it while her children were at school/

  • no i would not pay someone else because it is easy enough. just go slow and take your time PLUS it doesn’t have to be perfect.

  • I wouldn’t pay for someone to cover schoolbooks but it is not a bad idea that you are thinking of making some money out of this. I am sure there would be many families who would use your service. You could perhaps advertise your service at schools or at sporting/dance clubs. Good luck with your venture.

  • if my kids had lots to cover I might consider it as it fiddly I hate doing it – but only if cost was very cheap.

  • I guess I might if we had a lot of books. It’s fiddly.

  • No I wouldn’t I used to do it myself but now I have 3 at school I buy the plastic slip covers and reuse them each year (if they are dirty I simply wipe them clean).

  • This was actually my question. It was suggested to me as something I could possibly do as I’m unable to work a normal job. Apparently there are always people in our local BSS groups on facebook looking for someone to do it. My first thought was…how lazy lol but I guess I don’t know what its like to be so busy that small things like that are actually a chore for some. I guess it can’t hurt to put some feelers out. Thanks ladies :)

  • MOM 56312 has come up with a good answer for you. Hope it works out for you.

  • I wouldnt pay some one as contact is so cheap to buy at the sales…. If i had to pay someone it wouldnt be more than a couple of dollars per book. If you were to do it as a buisness though i would suggest asking for a minium payment eg for so many books.

  • I love covering books and it just takes a bit of time and patience.

  • I wouldn’t pay someone to do that. You could try with some old books or magazines till you feel confident enough to cover your children’s books.

  • It is not as hard as you think. Go to a Utube and I am sure you will find a tutorial on it. My kids learnt to do it at school from other kids so I think it is just a matter of practising .

  • I wouldn’t, but I only have one set to cover! If you are having trouble with ‘contact’ covering, using a ruler to smooth the plastic as you go really helps. If paying someone, I would set a price for the entire job, not pay per unit of time.
