A heavily pregnant woman has been accused of selfish behaviour by a young couple, who told her to stop thinking the world revolved around her.

The expecting mum, who is eight-months-pregnant says she’s often tired when standing or walking for long periods of time.

“Yesterday afternoon, I was craving ice cream, so I drove to a nearby shopping centre to visit my favourite ice cream shop,” the pregnant woman explained on reddit. “Unfortunately, the place was quite crowded, and all of the tables surrounding the shop, as well as some nearby sofas were taken. Because of that, after getting my ice cream, I decided to sit on one of two massage chairs that were close, and eat it there.”

Even though the expecting mum sat in the massage chair to eat her ice cream, she wasn’t using the device.

“Once I started eating the snack, I got approached by a couple that was in their late teens, or perhaps early twenties. They asked me to get off the chair, since I wasn’t getting a massage, and they wanted to receive such a service together, which I refused to do. In return, I offered to leave once I finished eating, or if they found me a different place to sit, since I could not stand for more than a few minutes at a time, and had a relatively large dessert that I wanted to finish.

“Upon hearing that, the girl was not happy. She told me to stop acting as if I was ill, that just because I was pregnant, the world did not revolve around me, and because I was not paying for a massage, I had no right to sit on the chair. She then asked her partner to get a security guard, and a few moments later, he came with such an employee.

“The guard took my side, and asked the couple to either take turns using the second massage chair, or wait for me to finish eating, which upset the girl quite a bit. She accused me of being selfish and preventing the owner of the chairs from earning money, and left with her partner.”

The woman says she told her younger sister the story, she agreed with the couple, and suggested it would have been better to go to the shopping centre when it was less crowded. However, her older sister says she did nothing wrong and that the couple was unreasonable.

  • I would prefer to eat ice cream in comfort at home rather than in a crowded mall in any chair!

  • I am of two minds here. The couple could have waited yes, there was no need to be rude to her but as a mum of six and one being a very heavy twin pregnancy i knew when i got to the stage where i couldnt stay on my feet for long that i just needed to do things easier or at better times so its not crazy busy. Pregnancy is amazing and should be respected but it shouldnt allow is to become a little “ entitled”. I just chose to not go anywhere that i knew could be difficult for me and would ask family to get things i needed if they were out. Take the stress out of your own pregnancy by not being in tricky situations.

  • When you are near dropping your bundle the world does revolve around you and only you .At this stage you have had enough and everything is hard work. No man would ask you to get up and give your seat to anyone else for any reason . BTW there is a seat at the front of my place feel to come by and have an ice cream a coffee a cake of anything else

  • I would have said the world doesn’t revolve around you because you want a massage!
Neither is right or wrong in this situation. On the one hand the young couple could have waited, and on the other hand they had a point that she was stopping the owner of the chairs getting revenue. Although, they would have had to have waited if she was in fact using the massage chair for a massage. Would they have been rude and demanded she leave mid massage?

  • If the owner of the chairs was the complainant, then maybe there would be a case. However if the chair was vacant then anyone could sit on it in my humble opinion.

  • Definitely not in the wrong, it gets exhausting and painful in the last trimester. One day they will understand and regret their actions.

  • I don’t think you’re in the wrong at all, pregnant women need more support, its very tiring – I wouldn’t go up to anyone and demand they move because they’re not using it, be patient and wait til they move!
It was a public seat ????

  • So many of those massage chairs are never used. I’ve sat on them on occasion too. I think the couple could have waited for the lady to finish what she was eating. It wouldn’t have been that long. Getting a security guard is a bit silly.

  • I think it’s a catch-22. She accused you of being selfish but instead of showing compassion to a pregnant woman she herself acted as if the world revolved around her.

I think that yeah perhaps they could have helped you find another spot then enjoyed the chair. I don’t think you were inherently wrong.

  • It’s hard enough being pregnant, especially so far along.
So many people these days are rude and think it’s easy being pregnant. Carrying around that much weight Isn’t kind to your body at all!
