Howzat?! In what may just be the most Aussie birth announcement ever, a WA couple has welcomed their baby with a creative cricket-themed photo shoot.

The tongue-in-cheek snaps were the brainchild of cricket-mad dad Brody Price who wanted to welcome his second daughter into the world paying homage to his beloved sport.

“My husband Brody came up with the concept just out of the blue one day when I was only six-months-pregnant,” his wife, Sarah Price explained to Mouths of Mums. “He loves his sport and we had some football items in our first daughter’s newborn photoshoot so I didn’t think it was that strange. Given that i had the job of giving birth to worry about, I just said if he could organise it, I would be happy to do it.”

The couple enlisted photographer Renae Fox from Lil Impressions to help create the unique birth announcement. And there was no way the talented photographer was going to let the idea go through to the keeper. “Renae has been our go to family photographer for three years now so that was a no brainer,” Sarah said. “She was fantastic with just saying when the time comes, I will be there and we will make it happen.”

Sarah and Brody had to work quickly after their daughter Hadley was born, with mum and bub in and out of hospital in just 24 hours. “The photos are a set up obviously and I wasn’t actually giving birth so the whole thing was hilarious.

“When we realised I would only be in the hospital for a day, Brody rushed home and got his cricket gear and Renae came straight down. We all couldn’t stop laughing at how funny it looked. We managed to do the whole thing with only the lunch lady catching Brody in his gear. So it was even funnier going back a few days later once the photos were out and getting all the midwives reactions.”

While the photos were only intended as an in-joke, they soon became viral after Brody’s cricket club shared the snaps.

“We really only did it as a birth announcement for family and friends so it was crazy when it went viral. I think most everyone loved it and there was lots of comments with people egging on there friends to try and top it for their own births or cricket sledges about still dropping the catch.

“A few people missed the mark and were very concerned that Brody wasn’t being a good birthing partner but it was such a fantastic way to have Brody really feel included in announcing Hadley’s birth to the world. I think too often the only message conveyed in birth announcements is no one was harmed in the making of this baby (mum and bub are doing well). We wanted to celebrate her being here in a fun lighthearted way.”

  • So much fun!
Wish I had some nice photos for my babies but my first born was such a traumatic time for me (apart from when she came into the world), I don’t think I would have looked very happy in the photos.

  • That’s pretty cool, very creative parents and obviously cricket lovers. After nearly 2 years of trying to fall pregnant, when it happened I was too excited to faff around planning announcements……I was straight on the phone telling everyone

  • It’s parents own choice of how they would like to introduce the baby. It’s a fun way to look at an announcement.
