A pregnant mother faces charges of ‘disorderly conduct’ and possible jail time because her three year old toddler urinated in a parking lot.

Brooke Johns said she was driving when her son, Cohen, said he needed to use the restroom.

“He’s like, ‘Mum, I’ve got to pee. I’ve got to pee!’ I was like, ‘Well, hold on,’ and he’s like, ‘No! I’ve GOT to pee! I’ve got to REALLY pee.’ ” Ms Johns told WRDW.

According to Ms Johns the two barely made it to a petrol station parking lot before she realised he wasn’t going to make it inside.

“I can’t pick him up,” Ms Johns said. “I’m not supposed to lift him.”

Ms Johns said she tried to cover up her toddler as best as she could as he relieved himself in the parking lot.

The commotion caught the attention of a Richmond County Sheriff’s deputy.

“Accidents happen. And he was like, ‘Take him in the bathroom.’ What if I would have run in the bathroom and someone had been in there? What I was going to let him do? Pee on the floor of the gas station?” Ms Johns said.

“She allowed her male child to urinate in the parking lot,” the deputy wrote on the citation. “I observed the male’s genitals and the urination. Public restrooms are offered at the location.”

If convicted, Ms Johns faces up to 60 days in jail and an AU$7,015 fine.

Do you think this is a petty issue? Have you ever been caught and had to let your child go on the side of the road?

  • Shame on the deputy!!!! Anyone would have done the same. When kids have to go theres no time. They have to go that to instant! I wish i had if witnessed so i could give the cops a talking to.

  • I think this is a bit petty. he was just a toddler who really needed to go.

  • Very petty, a child so young shouldn’t have to hold on that long.

  • That’s a tad overboard on the police behalf. If a toddler needs to go he needs to go. What’s the difference if I pulled over by the road n let my son do his business?

  • Please when a child has to go they have to go and it isn’t always convenient. its a pee or a wee issue pardon the Dad joke

  • Super petty. Its a young child, completely different story if it was an adult purposely peeing in public.

  • I think we can all agree that while going in the parking lot wasn’t ideal, sometimes kds just don’t give you a choice.

  • What a overreaction. They didn’t do it on purpose. At that moment it was the only option!

  • When you have to go,you have to go!

  • The sounds more like revenue raising. the police officer clearly does not have children because they would know when they got to go they got to go. She should get off with a woman or a small fine, not jail time I think that’s a little bit ridiculous.

  • Even a fine for this I would find crazy, let alone jail time !

  • How old is the little boy? If he is pre-school age maybe keep a potty in the boot for emergencies. Hopefully you have room in the boot and sit him on it. If you have to tip it in a gutter or down a stormwater drain. Not ideal but better than being fined. When they are small they often don’t tell you until they can’t hold on. Unless the law has changed males in Aust. are allowed to pee on the passenger side next to a wheel, especially in country areas where there is no toilets.
