A new mum suddenly died while she held her baby girl in her arms.

Deanna Rose Gioia, 35-year-old nurse from Staten Island, was cradling two-month-old Adrianna as she prepared to feed her on Sunday 31 July.

Suddenly, she called out to her husband Richard Gioia: ‘I don’t feel well’.

She was already unresponsive when he ran into the room mere seconds later. An ambulance took Deanna to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

‘Just like that, she was gone,’ Debbie DiSalvatore, Deanna’s mother, told Staten Island Live.

The cause of Deanna’s death still remains a mystery, reports The Daily Mail.

She was in good health and didn’t have any complications when she gave birth. Deanna died just two days before her daughter turned two months old.

The family awaits an autopsy report to reveal Deanna’s cause of death.

Our thoughts are with Deanna’s family and friends.

  • Such terrible news. My heart goes out to Deanna’s family and friends. I don’t think they will have any closure until they get the autopsy results. The only positive thing to come out of this is that it was quick and she wouldn’t have suffered. RIP Deanna.

  • How very sad. I had a stroke when my youngest was four weeks old. The neurologist called it “just bad luck”, but you hear so many stories like this…

    • What kind of symptoms did you get, I have been getting really bad migraines and have been seeing black dots, my mother in law said it could be symptoms of a stroke

  • This is so tragic. She was so young and as a family they had so much to share in the following years. She may have had a stroke. She certainly didn’t suffer for long. I know of a Mum who had a stroke and was alone. She managed to stagger up the road with her newborn who was about 2 1/2 weeks old and rang her mother-in-law for help. She couldn’t understand her but recognised her voice. As she was only a street away she called an ambulance, told them the situation and went around there. The Mum had staggered home. Fortunately she hadn’t locked the door so they were able to walk straight in, not wait for the Police to break in. having the baby had taken its toll on her. She recovered and was advised by medical professionals not to risk having another baby.
