People Who Marry Teachers End Up The Happiest

We’re always told that it takes a special kind of person to be a teacher, but does their job make them the perfect life partners?

Selfless, trustworthy, kind, supportive. It reads like a checklist for the perfect spouse, but it also happens to be a list of qualities that are sought after in one profession above all others. As reported in Southern Living Magazine, when students were asked what they look for in a good teacher, the results were strikingly similar to the traits people look for in a life partner. Hard to argue with that.

As ThinkAloud.net puts it “marrying a teacher is like hitting the jackpot.” Here are a few reasons why:

Teachers are patient, kind and good listeners – Teachers have to really listen to their students, and understand their opinions and concerns, in order to develop trust. Not to mention the incredible patience and respect they show in doing so. This sounds like the foundation of a pretty great relationship to me. Coincidence? I think not.

Teachers are responsible and can handle any situation – Teachers take responsibility for the education of other people’s kids every single day. Pretty amazing when you think about it. If they can cope with lost textbooks, sudden illness, pigeons in the classroom and still manage to educate thirty unique individuals, we’re pretty sure they can handle anything life throws at them.

Teachers are dedicated and passionate – Teachers often go above and beyond in their job, despite being underpaid. They stay back at school late planning lessons, attend weekend sports days and spend their own money on resources to provide students with the best learning opportunities. If they show that kind of commitment to their job, chances are they are pretty committed in their personal life too.

Teachers are fun – Let’s face it, kids can be hilarious. It’d be pretty hard to work with them all day every day and not have a laugh once in a while. And most importantly, teachers can laugh at themselves. Kids make sure of that.

So there you have it – if you’re still looking for ‘the one’ maybe they’re out there somewhere doing playground duty right now. And if you’re married to a teacher, you probably knew all these things already – and your spelling is probably always perfect too.

I wish the same could be said for all school teachers. I know one who openly states that he wasn’t nothing to do with any relatives. His parents and his wife’s parents rarely see them except for school holidays. They only live about 1 hour away from them. The grandparents miss seeing their grandchildren as much as they would like to.

I know a lot of teachers and I would agree, but I am not married to one so can’t vouch for that part

I’m not a teacher and I am all of the things listed above… many people have these personality traits and aren’t teachers.
My husbands parents – one is a teacher and they got a divorce so I don’t feel this is right lol

I personally don’t know any teachers married to each other but I really think it depends on the person and not the profession they do.

That’s good in theory. My husband and I are both teachers, and whilst he hits all those qualities he is far more dedicated to his job than the average teacher. Instead of coming home early he would stay late to help one student, as soon as he gets home he is checking his emails to respond to his students, he has a truck load of marking to do, there’s planning to be done and somewhere in all of that he also needs to spend time with his family…. if u noticed I said I am a teacher too and am wondering y I’m not doing all the teachers things like him, it’s because I am currently a stay at home mum trying to handle any situation with my own kids (not as easy as it is in the classroom ????)

I think it depends on the person. I have spoken to some teachers that are arrogant and think everyone else around them needs educating.

Some fantastic teachers and some less so like any profession there is good and bad.

Like any other profession. Some lovely teachers that would make good husbands or wives. Some nasty ones that would make terrrible husbands or wives. Not sure being a teacher sways the balance one way or the other.

Totally disagree, I also know a teacher who had an affair and I think has very poor morals and shouldn’t be teaching.

Ummm… some teachers may have these qualities but certainly not all. A bit of a generalisation. I know of many teachers who have had affairs with other teachers and parents of students. Not really a great example, I would say.

Sorry, my brother is a teacher and has 3 divorces and not too lucky on the partner front. He is not a good listener, thinks he is always right and is selfish!

I married a teacher. Yes he has wonderful qualities, but that dedication to the job can really take a toll on family life. Teachers are just so overworked I barely saw him! I’m so glad he is not teaching any more. But yes, honour the teachers – most are amazing people who really want the best for every kid
