The Kraft Bonox Beef paste is so versatile! The flavour is jam packed beef and salty. It is great as a stock substitute, or in water as a nice warm drink in winter.
Hate it, a snotty gooey texture and taste terrible. Bovril is the best and Bonox falls behind miles compare to Bovril. And now supermarkets in Australia have pulled Bovril off their shelves. Bought Bonox to try it and binned in straight away. Very off putting
I like the flavour more than normal stock cubes and because it’s a paste easier to blend it. Goes great in the slow cooker or pies to add extra flavour
Think of Vegemite with a earthy back taste.
I find it great for cold days, kids sporting nights and just a every time pick up but comforting. Yes the texture has changed from thick very hard to dissolve contents to a runner and very easy to mix in a coffee cup or mug with just off the boil water.
Great change I feel for what I like it for.
Still only used 1 teaspoon per cup of beverage.
Another quality product watered down for greedy profits & now grossly inferior!!!!

Have been using Bonox in its original PASTE form {similar to texture of Vegemite} for over 50 years for beef stock, spreads, hot drinks & with rum to keep warm fishing in winter. Had the large size for commercial use & when ran out bought a small regular use size from a Coles Store only to find now just a watery essence & need five teaspoons instead of one to make stock or a drink. The labelstates \”paste\” which is false & misleading advertising,so will check out consumer affairs to make a complaint. It is a shame the products we knew for their quality over the years are now being made inferior for greedy profits with little or no regard for the consumer.

I was a regular buyer of bonox beef extract, but it is so watery now,I no longer use it.When I opened the jar it just ran out, like turning on the tap.You should rename it Bonox Beef Water Extract.UGG
Used to use this for sauces, gravy, broth and stock. now it is not worth it, thought i was getting stock that was off or somehow my storage was wrong. Now using other things to replace it. Hope they bring back the quality they had before one day.
Each to their own bonox is marmite to vegemite it was not what I call a drink and would not try this again it was horrible to drink and I would not put it in a stock
I agree with everything others are saying. I have been buying Bonox for 40 years and noticed the consistency became very \”thin\” a few years ago. It did \”thicken up\” slightly for a very brief time & is now more \”thin & runny\” than ever. I also had to use 3 teaspoons instead of 1.
I now use 1 teaspoon of PROMITE to make a satisfying drink. It is not quite as good as Bonox but it is about ONE TENTH of the price of Bonox. Another example of the companies putting profits before customer satisfaction.
Used it for years as a spread on toast It was a paste. A year or two back it changed its texture to a kind of slime and now its watery. Having discovered it is made this way and not the result of aging, I will be switching to something else when I have finished the two jars in the cupboard. Probably give Bovril a go.
I have used Bonox a lot in the past to augment stock and make hot drinks but but I am completely dissatisfied with the “new” watery consistency – so I will be looking for alternatives. Does anyone have ideas.
I’m not sure the new version has changed much from what it was when I was a child. It is better if it isn’t too thick as it is dilutes easier to one consistency.
I guess I will always continue to buy Bonox because it is a quick n easy way to make a nice hot drink instead of a cup of tea which I always add 3 teaspoons of sugar. Just wish the Bonox wasn’t so thin and runny. It was not like that back in the ‘good old days’. I would happily pay more if it was thicker. Instead I have to buy several jars at tbe same time.
Sometimes when I make a ‘cuppa-soup’ I add 2 teaspoons of Bonox in a large ‘soup-mug’ with extra hot water and really enjoy the beverage. Just wish the Bonox was thicker. Things could be worse… they could have stopped making it altogether. Gotta count my blessings.
I have had Bonox for for about 60 years. I has become watered down. I have uncounted this a few years ago but is came good. Now, 2 jars in a row.
No more for me.

I don’t know if the product has changed in any way , but I do remember I was brought up on Bonox as it is the cheat way of making a soup base. It is not as salty as vegemite but all you need is put enough according to taste then add either pasta or meat or vegies with it . My mother always cooked this with Elbows pasta in a soup base all the time as she says it is the “lazy ” way of making soup if you don’t want to use liquid stock or cubes.
Have been buying Bonox for as long as I can rember. Bought another jar on the weekend and it was like water ! Really thin compared to the original product. Had to use 3 teaspoons instead of 1. Another example of cheapening the product to keep the same price. I would rather pay more for the original. I won’t be buying it again.
