These churros will be an instant delight with the family. Add a little chocolate dipping sauce to entice those tastebuds. Adjust sugar content to suit your taste. If you have no piping bag just get a ziplock bag and cut a small hole.

Ingredients (makes 12 Churros)

  • 1 cup Water
  • 1 cup Plain flour
  • 2 1/2 Tbsp Sugar
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 2 Tbsp Vegetable oil (plus oil for deep frying)
  • 1/2 cup Sugar to taste
  • 1 tsp Cinnamon

Method

  1. In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine water, 2 1/2 tablespoons sugar, salt and 2 tablespoons vegetable oil. Bring to a boil and remove from heat. Stir in flour until mixture forms a ball.
  2. Heat oil for frying in deep-fryer or deep skillet to 190 degrees C. Pipe strips of dough into hot oil using a pastry bag. Fry until golden; drain on paper towel.
  3. Combine 1/2 cup sugar and cinnamon. Roll drained churros in cinnamon and sugar mixture.

  • Yum. Thanks for sharing, they look great, cannot wait to try.

  • Question: in step one, do you wait for the liquid mixture cooled and then stir in flour?
I guess it will be difficult to handle hot ingredients in the piping bag.

  • Ooh yum. It could be very dangerous for me to learn how to make these. At the moment they’re a rare treat, maybe once or twice a year at San Churros. If we made them at home… I worry for our waistline.
