This is a very healthy breakfast with full of nutrition. We generally have it on Sundays as breakfast or in our brunch menu. It's super easy and super healthy.

Ingredients (serves 6 | makes 14 )

  • 500 gms Yellow split peas (dry)
  • 1/4 cup chopped Tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup chopped Onions
  • 1 teaspoon Salt (add as per individual preference)
  • 1 cup Canola or Any vegetable oil

Method

  1. Wash and soak the lentils overnight or atleast for 5 - 6 hours
  2. In a blender add the soaked lentils (in small quantities) and add salt and blend it into a fine thick batter. Add water to make it into a pancake batter consistency.
  3. Add onions and tomatoes in the batter
  4. On a hot crepe pan add 1 - 2 teaspoon oil and spread it evenly.
  5. Take a ladle full of batter and pour it on the pan. Spread it like a pancake.
  6. Cook each side of the batter for 1 mins on medium flame.
  7. You can serve this pancake hot with yogurt as accompaniment.

  • In the Ingredients you talk about Yellow split peas and in the Method you mention under number one lentils. Which one do you use, as there is difference between the 2.
Split peas are a member of the legume family, as are lentils. However, split peas are an actual field pea that is dried. Once dried, the outer skin of the pea is removed and the pea is split in half. Lentils, on the other hand, are the seeds found in the pods of a small annual plant.

  • Great recipe, I love it ! You could replace the soaked lentils with lentil flour :)

    • As variation you could also use chick pea flour :)

  • What an interesting idea. I’d need to be really organised with the lentils though. Too bad if I forgot to soak overnight — 5 to 6 hours! Whoa!

Thank you so much for sharing. Now I have something else to add to my cooking list after going mental buying all this fake meat yesterday.
