Allows you to slice up the apple for younger kids and will stop the apple turning brown.

Ingredients (serves 1)

  • 1 Apple
  • 1 Tbsp Lemon juice - bottled is okay
  • 1 cup Water

Method

  1. Add the water and lemon juice together in a small jug.
  2. Cut apple into desired sized slices.
  3. Soak the apple into the water/juice mixture for 5 minutes. Remove and pack into bags or containers.

Notes

The lemon juice will stop the apple going brown.

  • Great idea to keep apples and other sliced fruits looking fresh until lunch time. Also a great idea for fruit salads. Thank you.

  • Great tip, so useful when kids don’t want to eat apple peel but also refuse to eat ‘yucky’ apple pieces that have gone brown in the lunch box, lol.

  • I’m thinking this is rather wonderful & something I didn’t know of, thank you for sharing as sometimes I can’t eat a whole apple & I like Granny Smiths.

  • I knew lemon juice helped to stop fruit going brown but I wasn’t sure about bottled lemon. This looks easy and it’s something I’m going to need to know and use as my daughter gets older!

  • Thanks for this, I also use lemon juice on bananas when I use them on desserts like pavlova, I simply brush it over the sliced banana with a pastry brush and it stops it going brown, lasts days. I hate wasting fruit which happens with kids.
