A simple sushi roll recipe easy to make at home, great for using up left overs from Christmas. Re-make your left overs into something new and different.

Ingredients (makes 6 rolls)

  • 1 cup rice
  • 2 pieces marinated meat
  • 2 Tbsp rice vinegar
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 3 sheets yaki nori for sushi (seaweed)
  • sushi mat

Method

  1. Cook rice, drain and mix in the rice vinegar, salt and sugar.
  2. Cut any bones and fat off the meat. Cook (if required) and cut into small strips.
  3. Place seaweed on sushi mat, spread an even layer of rice onto seaweed leaving approx an inch of seaweed free at the furthest end from you. Place the meat in a row approx 1 inch from the rice closest to you. Roll sushi into log. Cut in half with sharp knife. Repeat.

Notes

You can use left over meat that you have in the fridge from Christmas, if it's not marinated coat it in sauce to flavour it.

  • My kids love sushi and buy it all the time. You make it sound so easy. We’ve tried it before and it seemed so messy and time-consuming, but you’ve inspired me to give it another go.

    • It all depends how you make the rice the stuff i add to the rice makes it sticky and hold together. Also i line of japanese mayo on the edge of the far end of the seaweed helps glue it down

  • I didn’t know you could eat sushi cooked, I’ve always avoided it because I didn’t like the idea of eating raw meat. Lol.

    • Almost all western sushi is cooked. Sushimi is the raw fish
      one.

      • Well there you go…learn something new every day. 🙂
