Hello!

I’m surprising hubby with a holiday to Thailand next year because he truly deserves a holiday but I wanted to hear some experience from those who have been to Thailand. I’ll be with my 2 year daughter and I wanted to know what’s the best place for tourists and kid friendly places. Any recommendations on hotels would be great and tips on what to avoid or what not to do

  • Sawat De Ka…..(Hello) I have been to Thailand many times. Its a great and exciting place to go. The tourist areas like Phuket etc all speak English and are geared for that so there won’t be a problem with the language. My favourite is Chiang Mai (north) but you can’t go past Phuket for Pi Pi Island (south). Hotels are considerably better than Australia and cheaper and most will include breakfast. There are plenty to choose from on-line so shop around.

  • My holiday was a long time ago, when I was backpacking. What I would say would be to get out of Bangkok and head to an island or beach.

    • I have heard this too from a friend that went on a recent trip. Getting out was the most enjoyable part of her trip.

  • My husband leaned very quickly not to shake everyone’s hand (general people/street vendors) as they will hold you there and try and sell you something.

  • I went a couple of years ago and we stayed at the hotel Merlin in the heart of Patong Phuket. I saw many people with children in Phuket and a few at our hotel. I probably wouldn’t of course eat off the street carts and especially the little one. A lot of the hotels have fantastic buffet breakfasts and the one we stayed at was like nothing I’ve seen before. They had a man making omelettes to order and there was just such a beautiful array of fresh healthy food available every day in our hotel.

    • Is there anything wrong with the food from the street carts? I’ve read on quite a few review pages about avoiding people selling things on the street because if you accept one then there will be many coming up to you. Did that happen to you? I will be looking into the hotel merlin the food sounds delicious!! Thanks

  • I’ve been twice with kids – earlier this year when they were 7 and 5, and back when my son was 15 months. Where in Thailand are you going? We went to Phuket (we have timeshare there). The people are so lovely and love kids so it will be a great holiday for you. There is plenty to do and see.

    • I’m not sure yet but I’ve heard a lot of people go to Phuket when in Thailand so I’ll probably be looking into going there but thanks you’re making me more excited about my holiday :)
