Hello!

Having been away on leave for a year, I returned to work 2 days a week. After working in such arrangement for the past 1.5 years, I’m starting to question myself. Is it worth spending 2 days at work? Perhaps it is time to take the plunge and resign. If the objective of working part time is to ‘stay in the market’, it is working. However, the aim to progress in one’s career seems bleak. Most companies put ‘part time’ employees on the back bench. I haven’t seen any development in my career since, even though ‘awards’ have been won… Should I or shouldn’t I resign?

  • That is completely 100% your decision. I don’t know your home situation or your financial situation or if you can get or even need to get another job. Part time is better then no time. Perhaps stay where you are but look for something else, then resign when you have that other job??

  • Only you will know the real answer. I have gone through the same thing with my work over the last 2 years. My career has definitely halted and then I weighed it up (with the help of a coach) and decided I didn’t really want a career at this point I was happy being Mum, wife and having a job I liked to do. It took a while for me to get my head around that I didn’t need to climb a corporate ladder to be successful or happy in my job. Good luck with your decision and everything will work out.

  • Does you job also make you feel good about yourself? If it not ad you don’t need it them maybe think about resigning. I have kept my part time job as like you said it keeps me in the market but also because I enjoyed it and its me not me being mum or wife. I’m just me at work
