Hello!

My daughter (13) was dignoised with ongoing stomach pain in May this year. Since this happened she had stomch pain and nausea every day. She missed about 30 days of school a term because she was in so much pain and felt sick all the time. She was then referred to a paediatric gastroenterologist when she under went so many tests including MRI, ultrasound, X-Ray, colonoscopy, gastrocopy and breath tests. Mild gastritis was found and she was given emeprazole tablet. She took this for 4 months but the pain remained, she had a blood test and found her iron was 129 double what it should be for her age! She has been admitted to the children’s hospital many times because of bad pain. The pain is still undignoised but she is managing it better, she has her good and bad days. I just hope my daughter gets better soon.

  • I hope they can find out what’s causing it. No one should have to live in pain, especially not a child. Best of luck with everything.

  • I have iron overload. It’s awful. I hope they can find what is causing your daughter’s iron levels to be so high soon. I agree with the probiotics. I have a lot of stomach issues and they are much better when I take them.

  • I really hope that you are able to get to the bottom of the pain for her. I have a daughter that suffers pain due to many medical conditions and it is no fun at all

  • Seeing how she has had so many tests including a colonscopy / gastrocopy I am assuming coeliac disease has been ruled out.
I would really suggest a visit to a nutritionist/dietitian, food intolerance’s can really cause havoc with ones health. Specialists can work through food sensitivities and form life saving plans that really work. I am not coeliac but am gluten intolerant also lactose plays up with me. If I eat any thing I shouldn’t I develop terrible irritable bowel symptoms, so its gluten, lactose and low fodmap for me.
Wishing you all well and praying things will improve soon.

  • So do I sweetie. I know this is an unusual question but has anyone suggested probiotics for your daughter. I have read quite a bit about them lately a it might be worth a look. Most of us see the gut or digestive tract as purely an organ for digestion. I found out that t gut is also responsible for a huge percentage of our immune system’s function. If there is not enough healthy bacteria in the gut or intestines it can contribute to many illnesses developing. So it may not hurt to ask your chemist or dr about these probiotics.

  • Please remain vigilant and use your instincts, I had symptoms such as these from 12 onwards for years… tests and tests and theories and it was determined at 27 it was endometriosis

  • GET several opinions, if you feel still something deeper is wrong keep pushing them for more tests opinions etc

  • Your poor daughter. Hopefully you find an answer and it resolves itself. My daughter used to have unexplained tummy pain, but she was younger. It was finally diagnosed as migraines of the tummy and just got better itself after a while. I’ve made sure she keeps her fibre intake adequate and drinks lots. Not sure if this will help your daughter but I hope she is better very soon.

  • There are books which may help your daughter in managing pain… The hospital should be able to help. Best wishes.
