Hello!

I never imagined I’d be the type of parent tours the ‘attachment parenting’ style… I’m not actually sure that’s what my parenting style is, but its what I’ve been told.

Since the age of 6 months our daughter has slept in our bed, she’s now two and showing no signs of leaving – or it could be that I’m not ready for her to leave!!!!! I also breasted her for almost 2 years before she weaned herself… Verdict? Am I ‘attachment parenting’ because I coal rep and breastfed that long?

I hate controlled crying, and I have never left my daughter overnight. Inno longer baby wear as she refuses but occasionally she will fall asleep in her sling if she’s having a stubborn ‘I don’t need my nap day….’

Whatever style parenting I’m doing, I just followed my instincts. My daughter is so independent and a gorgeously happy and friendly child. I think somewhere along the way I did something right…

  • i couldn’t listen to my child screaming for me so i can’t do controlled crying. it is sad that they eventually shut up because you have taught them that you go into bed and cry but i won’t come to you

  • With parenting, I think you’ve just got to do what feels right.

  • Since every child is different, every parenting style is different. I think it is great that you listen to your instincts, and just think, do you know any teenagers that sleep with their parents ;) I am sure one day she will leave your bed and you will miss the cuddles. So enjoy them while you can :)

  • You know, I am not a fan of labelling parenting styles. I think you are right in saying it is instinct. By labelling it I think it gives this idea that you are living your life by the book and doing the exact same thing that other so-called ‘attachment parents’ are doing. From what I can read I think you are just doing what is instinctive in your situation…. You are loving your child the best way you can and doing what works for you! There is no right or wrong way (excluding abuse of course). Well done!
