Hello!

Frosty mornings and cold nights are starting to welcome us all and so is the cold and flu season. Yesterday was the day my daughter started getting her first cold, a few coughs and splutters but nothing I really thought about. This morning a different story I was greeted with a runny nosed kiss and a cough to the face (7 month olds can’t cover their mouth) so out goes the plans for the day, and it’s a day of chest rub, nurofen and wiping a running nose.

Hopefully the cold she has will pass quickly as she is not liking her first blocked/running nose. I wouldn’t either.

  • A young baby who gets a cold can easily end up with pneumonia. I know of one baby girl who appeared to get 2 colds close together. Her Mum had taken her to the Dr. both times to make sure that was all it was as there was some nasty viruses going around at the time and she was also having great difficulty lowering her baby’s temperature. When the baby developed a persistant cough, their normal Dr. wasn’t available so she saw another one who listened to the baby’s chest and sent them straight to the hospital for chest xrays. When the report came back, they reckoned the baby had pneumonia and it appeared she probably had it when it was diagnosed as just a cold the second time.

  • I remember my daughters first cold. She was probably only 2 months old. I don’t think I slept for a week. Her blocked nose had me so scared, not to mention her constant waking because of not being able to breathe

  • Hopefully she is over it now! Nothing worse than a sick baby

  • Having a cold is horrible for adults let alone babies who don’t know what’s going on! Hopefully she gets over it quickly and you can go back to enjoying days out!

  • Colds are so sad to watch in our little ones! We’ve had a few and had to ride it out. A humidifier, sometimes panodol, lots of couples and a bub (to catch snot) did the trick :)

    • Thanks for the tips :) we bought a humidifier Saturday and it’s help a lot.

  • My daughter got influenza A when she was 7 weeks old. It was the scariest thing I had ever been through. The amount of tests & processes they had to do on her was agonizing as a parent. Hope all little ones are coping through this time of year, the weather is terrible and colds are very contagious. Keep warm

    • That would of been scary for both. ☔️Winter is definitely going to be a cold one this year. I know we will be keeping warm. I hope everyone stays warm and healthy this winter and flu season.
