Hello!

So today was the first time I went out and left my baby with a babysitter. She is 12 months old (only just) and I had a few things to do today which meant I just couldn’t take her. I have a family friend with a 16 year old daughter who I know to be very responsible, so I asked her to babysit. The temptation to text her every 20 minutes to make sure my baby was OK was huge! My little one is so easygoing, that nothing much upsets her. And when I got home, sure enough she had a huge smile on her face, so all was good. But I’ve never been so stressed, and never had my mind turn to my little one so frequently as I did today. Tell me it gets easier?

  • I think I was just as nervous the first couple of times I minded a relative’s baby.
Even worse when he crawled across a living area floor when I had to go to the toilet ( or there would have been a mess) and I heard a thud, then crying. He had tried to pull himself up on a rocker and got stuck under it. At first I couldn’t find him so that made it even worse.

  • It gets easier. The first couple of times are the worst.

  • It does get easier. Its great youve got a babysitter who you know is responsible and capable. My advice is its natural to worry so dont stress about that. But texting occaisionally is ok i think and may help put you at ease.

  • I still feel nervous anytime I leave my kids but it does get easier. Trust in the person looking after your baby and knowing your baby is happy & safe makes it easier over time.
