Can I get a Home Loan without a full time job? Does anyone know?

I am a professional working casual shifts. I earn enough to pay rent and household items and save a bit.
I have heard a lot of people saying you can’t get a home loan without a full time job. Is this true?

I have a paid up car. i believe if you have been paying rent for a period of time that is taken into consideration.
I have been renting for about 7 years and really really need a place I can call my own.

You know, that feeling of owning your own house and have a garden and pets!
I know mums from Mouths Of Mums have all kinds of experience, knowledge and skills. Please advice. You can even give me links to flow up. I am game for any constructive information.
