Hello!

I often hear people say that Tassie is too cold, or too wet for a holiday. On a beautiful Autumn day like today, with amazing blue skies and warm sun, I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. Reading about cyclones, torrential rain and still high temps in other parts of Australia, I often wonder why Tassie gets such a bad rap.

Our Summers are warm to hot, but not often unbearable, our Winters are milder than places like Canberra and many parts of Victoria and NSW, and our rainfall is nowhere near as much as most other states. When you check out the weather, make sure you look at the North and the East Coast temps as well, as the South is more variable and not as mild at times, so people see the weather on TV and think the whole of Tassie is freezing/wet which is just not true!

There is so much to see and do here, and so easy for travelling. The people are friendly (of course 😉 ) and if you pick the right time of year for the type of holiday you want, it really is a beautiful place for a holiday.

  • I haven’t been to Tassie when I was a teenager many years ago, but husband is due for 2 months maternity leave very soon and we are currently looking into driving around all of tassie!!
We are both so excited, from what I can remember and from what we can see it is one of the most beautiful places in Australia! So much natural beauty, you are very lucky to live in such a beautiful state!

    • You will have such a wonderful holiday. You are doing it the best way- taking your time and driving around the state is amazing as you get to see all it’s diversity.

  • My husband’s family has a shack in the central highlands. We were there in mid-Janurary and IT SNOWED. I mean REALLY snowed! I think Tasmania is unbelievably beautiful. Pristine. But I am one of those people that would choose a heatwave over snow in Summer.

  • I grew up in Tassie until I was 18. Most of my family live there. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had this conversation with people about Tassie weather. Hobart gets a bit chilly in winter due to Mt Wellington and the breeze off the harbour and river. The rest of the state enjoys temperate weather. Sometimes I think the weather in the north of the state, where my part of my family lives is more fair than here in Victoria in the coastal part where I live. Tasmania is so beautiful and if you want to go for a holiday be prepared for each part of the state- North, South, East and West to be completely different and beautifully unique scenery wise. Also prepare your taste buds for a culinary delight. They produce some of the finest produce and the seafood is first class.
