Hello!

It happens every month… out come the cut and paste commenters! I love the recipes section and am fast becoming an avid viewer of the new crafts section (looking for ideas to keep a nearly two year old busy) and I love to look at pretty much every entry. I do usually add a comment because someone has taken the time to share a recipe or idea – but I never do a ‘thanks for sharing’ because I want the person who shared to know that I actually took the time to check out their recipe or activity. This month I’ve noted that in the recipes section there is a ‘this looks interesting thanks for sharing’ comment on nearly every recipe. I hope I don’t see the same in the Arts & Crafts section.

  • Yes so annoying and its now 2022 and some are still doing this

  • Just keep doing what you’re doing anonymously ! keep your own responses truthful and real, but don’t waste too much of your energy on the lack of effort others show….in the end of the day you can’t really do much about that ! I agree that it’s sad though when a response of “nice story” is given on a heart breaking story. Xx

  • so? what does it matter? I often write thanks for sharing, as well as a word or seven. Doesn’t mean I don’t read the recipe. I email myself so many links I wonder when I can make them all!! Live and let live anonymous!!

  • I’ve noticed lots of irrelevant comments made on a lot of things. It’s frustrating to read of a mother struggling with the loss of a baby and gave someone comment ‘nice story, good to read.’ Honestly!? Do you even bother to read these heart wrenching stories before you post your stupid comments?! Sorry, getting a bit annoyed here! I never though of cut and paste though. How do you tell if they’re doing that?

    • And yes the serial offender I’ve mentioned has commented on this story. Fancy that!

      • AHAHAHAHA I wonder if they bother reading through the comments and saw this.
        It annoys me too.
I also hate the ones who write a couple of words. It would be hard to police it thought with the amount of comments received but I think you should be able to report comments like those!

  • I’ve been noticing this a lot and even noticed a serial offender in the comments of your story! Very frustrating! My comments might not be too in-depth or original but they aren’t cut and pasted!

  • Oh it gets worse, I’ve read heart wrenching stories of loss and people pouring their hearts out only to find comments like “What a nice story’! It’s downright nasty.
Just look at the last 2 comments on this article.

  • I just enjoy reading all the comments to this article. Thanks for sharing :-)

  • It’s all about getting points and prizes I think. I’ve noticed quite a few comments in the answers section that say all the other responses are great ideas on almost every question.

  • I just read on the same cutting and pasting article from last month that another mum has found out that Mom can detect cutting and pasting. So now hopefully everyone can rest assured it can’t happen and calm down a bit with the disharmony it creates on a site that is supposed to be about us mums sharing ideas, thought and opinions in a postive, supportive and constructive manner.

  • Lol Shazzbot, I have noticed the same thing and it has annoyed the crap out of me because I like to read the comments left by other people. They are all left at the end of the month so obviously just wanting to collect points! But what made me laugh was they didn’t think ‘there are some good comments’ on this thread. ;)

  • I am new to the website just in the last few weeks and have been loving it!! I agree, these comments can be very frustrating. Another mum out there has taken the time (which we all know doesn’t come easy) to write down their favourite recipe, a great craft idea, or an inspiring story and they deserve to know the people that are commenting are actually taking the time to read what they have posted.
I know that when i have made posts i really am interested in the other mums opinions and comments and going through and seeing the copy and paste comments can be very frustrating.

  • You don’t receive points for duplicate comments anyway so what does it matter if people reuse the same comment if it applies.

    • Yes exactly. I have seen this same article about cutting and pasting and people mentioning it before and to be honest that, and the bitchiness that is evolving from it is far more annoying than alleged cutting and pasting anyway.

      • I must have missed that article. Thanks for mentioning it. :-)

  • Thanks Cinta. It almost feels like a school yard when you see this same post about cut and paste over and over. I’ve explained to them before that actually it’s quicker on modern smartphones to quickly write a post, so these so called cutters and pasters probably just use an iPhone or equivalent. Let’s face it, we all love this site and let’s make it a community everyone wants to go to sans the bitchiness. I read your comments Cinta and I always find them relevant. Occasionally all of us are time poor as we are all after all mums!

  • I’m new to MoM & love this site. Yes I have noticed that there are a lot of ” thanks for sharing” comments & agree its not really being part of the whole community & is just a point grabbing ploy.

  • I Agree With You HopefullyHeidi, I Hate Seeing The Bitchyness, I Hop On As My Mummy Time And Like To Read And Look Thru Things, WithOut The Meanness

  • I usually try to post a comment that’s responsive, but sometimes if a kid needs me I’ll type something generic as an acknowledgement if I don’t have time to think properly. I think it’s only a problem if you do that all the time.

  • Yes Olliea88 sometimes it’s just a case of being time poor and not having the time to write a huge response.

  • I don’t cut and paste either but I’m so sick and tired of people with their claws out making this a bitching site about people’s comments that I might actually lose a bit of decorum and give an appraisal of a recipe that someone may be offended by and not bother to say thanks! Like I’ve said before I question the validity of the origin of the recipes when they had a massive points incentive on and whether some of the main offenders actually made these or not as I don’t believe any mother has that much time on their hands. Seriously this is supposed to be a nice, friendly community of mums. How about we all just stop the bitching! By the way I’m not getting points for this post.

    • I enjoy the friendly aspect of this site too!
