Hello!

So I’m sure you have all heard of the don not call register. It’s a website done by the government to register you phone number so that you do don’t get sales calls on that phone line. What really annoys me is that we have registered our phone but we still have calls constantly. Many of them are after 9pm at night from a call centre which sounds like it is in India. They always start of by saying Mrs… we are not sellling you anything we want to tell you about…. or we have a few questions etc etc It makes me wonder how they can get away with this. I have tried to get the company names but they tend to know your fishing for info. Most say they are situated in Melbourne or Sydney but you ask what the weather is like and they can’t tell you. I wonder why! Wish the government would crack down on these calls as well.

  • So frustrating. I used to work in the telemarketing industry and it was so difficult. I was just trying to earn a living. But now they annoy me so much!

  • This is the most annoying thing when you get those silly calls!

  • I get angry at the ones that ring after about 8 and just don’t give up, I just hang up now

  • Answer the next one pretending you are a government official or from Telstra, I guarantee they will not harass you again.

  • I only have a mobile and don’t answer numbers I don’t know.

  • yeah i just hang up. One time i asked to be taken off their call last and the indian woman hung up on me so they get it back now. Also try not to confirm your name. When they say “hello mrs smith” i just tell them “wrong number”. Some will hang up and some will offer you their deal/scam lol.

  • You need to check to see if you are indeed still registered with DNC as you have to re-register after a certain period of time – I think it’s yearly?! I have found the best way to deal with these type of calls is as easy as not answering the phone! If it’s someone I know, or if it’s urgent, they will ring my mobile; if it’s important, they will leave a message; if it’s a cold-caller, they’ll just hang up and try again, but after a few attempts, they will give up! :)

  • I believe it’s almost impossible for the Government to crack down on these calls – they’re mostly thieves, so they don’t care about the law, and if they’re located in a different country they’re pretty much immune anyway.

  • usually people call wanting money

  • we are the same – have always been on the do not call register but still get calls and interestingly our number is listed under my maiden name so we know exactly when someone if cold calling from a phone listing!

    • Unfortunately; these people do find ways of getting numbers and cold calling.

  • Oops! I accidently posted this comment below! Now it is in the right spot. These types of calls seem to bother most people! I am quite curt with them “no thank you!” and hang up. I had one person who ranted and I could not get a word in and I hung up and successfully blocked them! Some success! :)

  • I agree! We are on this register but still receive just as many calls as before we put our number on there. I even find that they are starting to come through my mobile. I feel I can’t go anywhere without that happening or at risk of…Same with walking through the shopping centre and people trying to make you donate money to something or rather. I understand charities need help and I often donate to those I believe in but it seems to invade us these days. Not a fan

  • The government can’t stop the overseas calls. I usually say I;m on the do not call register and they hang up. Its still very annoying though

    • I put down the receiver after saying “please hold” and walk off. After a minute they’ve hung up and don’t ring back. I think they’ve blacklisted me!

      • I do not say anything to them on the phone & they just hang up. I just hope they get the message eventually & leave me alone.
