I have just got back from our local library and whilst I was there I noticed that you could hire an Energy Smart toolkit to do your own testing at home to see how you can be more energy efficient. I picked it up and have brought it home. It is full of little gadgets which are fun to use like this laser beam gun to get the temperature of objects i.e. walls, running water or high areas. I tested the floor where the sun was shining in and it read 29C and next to it where the sun has not warmed the floor it was 24C. Thats is quite a difference in temperature! They also have this gadget which you plug into the wall and run your appliance through it i.e. microwave and it tells you how much energy it had used up and how much it will cost you in electricity etc. I think that the local libraries are fantastic especially as they offer this for loan for free.
