Hello!

I have been asked if I would like to have the flu vaccine as I am around children at school a lot. My immediate reaction is no thanks as the only timeI have had the vaccine was the year I got the flu! I was told it was a different strain of flu to the one the vaccine was for! So if it does not protect against most flus why do people bother to have it? I am 100% in agreement with having all the usual childhood vaccinations against smallpox, Polio, tetanus etc but I also feel that you do need a few germs in you and the flu as horrible as it is at the time, it is not life threatening to an average healthy person. Am I alone in this thinking?

  • When I was working in an office (not near children) we were actually given free flu shots if we wanted them. Because of medical problems I continued having them after I retired. Normally if you get sick afterwards it means you have already come in contact with flu or something similar. The only minor problem I have ever had was a sore arm for a couple of days (not every time) This year there has been a spate of pneumonia, some they had to admit to hospital. They are the ones that hurt…for a few days. Apparently they last for more than one year….not sure how long for.

  • I think if you are elderly, pregnancy or probe to heart/lung problems, then you should most definitely have the flu shot.

  • Unfortunately, the flu can be life threatening. Maybe not yo you, but you could catch it and pass it on to someone who does have a life threatening reaction to it. I’m all for as many vaccinations as you can get to eliminate/reduce disease
