Hello!

My mother has had 6 children, all we’re born Prematurely, between 32 – 36 weeks.
I’m curious & slightly worried this may mean I will have my little one early. I am just reaching the 30 weeks mark and have had a wonderful pregnancy, no sickness, no issues, baby is measuring perfectly as far as my last appointment went..
But when I’ve attempted to research, there are so many different views on whether or not this may be an issue and what precautions I may be able to take, I’m just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience, with their mother/daughter etc?
I am currently due to continue full time work until the 36 week mark.

  • Great advice from Damish. I was totally different from my mother. She had 5 children all natural and breastfeed very easily. I got pre eclampsia, had a ventouse delivery and posterior birth at 35 weeks and my son was still 7 pound. I got hospitalised with mastitis and given morphine and put on a drip. What Damish has said though is totally correct according to what I have heard from colleagues.

    • Oh wow! what a run of luck :( Hope all is well now though!!

  • I don’t think there is a genetic predisposition -any woman can have preterm labour. The risk is higher if you have had preterm births before – the likelihood increases with each birth as in your Mums case.
