I get you have had everyone bagging on you, it seems unfair. The research I have read whilst it does agree some boys need the extra year to develope emotionally, it was actually really favourable of starting children earlier where possible.
It said that statistically, children who are not held back for the extra year, are more likely to become validictorians/head of school/dux. It also went on to say that children who were held back for the extra year are less likely to repeat the year, and just flunk out because they don’t want to be so much older than the other kids.
So I just wanted to reassure you that there is a lot of evidence that what you did was the right choice. You know your son better than anyone so ignore the others, they don’t get it!
