Hello!

As the weather gets warmer we all love long family trips to the beach. A trip to the beach is wonderful and very relaxing for all of the family. We have had a few encounters with blue bottles. Someone was badly and painfully stung by a blue bottle and was in a huge amount of pain. The lifeguard told us too pee on the stings? We decided on a different option and went with placing the leg with stings in cold water. Then by staying in a cool pool until it soothed the stings. Do Mums have any tips for avoiding blue bottles and for treatment?

  • They are now saying warm water is the best method to treat blue bottle stings, standing under a warm shower is best but pouring warm water over the site helps.

  • My nan used to always take vinegar with us and if we got stung which used to happen often she would spray it on us always worked.

  • I always check the area on the beach and look in the water and avoid swimming after a storm or bad weather. This is when jelly fish blow in/get swept into shore.

  • Staying out of the water or using a wet suit are the only strategies I’m aware of.

  • If I get to a beach and I can see the blue bottles on the sand…I’m out of there! It’s not worth the pain to hang around

    • When we were at the beach there were none on the sand but in the water and we could not see them. Someone got stung and said the pain was incredible. :(
