Hello!

I have had lovely time inside when the weather has got too hot knitting for babies. I knit beanies and booties and keep them as gifts for the birth of babies. Do other mums enjoy knitting as much as me?

  • Unfortunately booties aren’t used very much these days. I have been knitting teddies which are used by the Ambulance Service for babies, toddlers etc. taken to hospital. Tiny beanies are used in the nurseries for babies, especially the ones that are premature or sick.
I have also knitted larger beanies for cancer patients who have lost their hair as a result of their treatment. Some patients are children and their Mums often don’t have the time to care for their family other than the necessities.

  • I really need to learn to knit. I keep thinking I would like to but then never get around to it. I am very lucky to have a very talented Mother in Law and Grandmother in Law that knits us beautiful clothes for our little ones. Even my Brother in Law has been learning to knit and has made some great items!

  • I only learnt the VERY basic of how to knit last year for a change as a few years ago learnt the basics of crotcheting . The hardest part about knitting is getting the stitch counts right . Even when I knit just a basic cloth to start off, it never turns into a square as the rows are uneven and I am relentlessly counting !. Any easy tips ?

  • I am not good at all. But I could do it when I was a child. It must be amazing to be able to create so many special things!!

    • It is a wonderful creative outlet and I do enjoy it!

  • We prefer crochet. People love handmade goodies. So clever of you!

    • Crocheting is a wonderful skill and I love it too. These skills need to be kept alive and passed down to the younger generations.

  • i have knitted things before when i was 17 and haven’t done it since. i liked it but i learnt to do it so that i could spend time with this lovely old lady!. she was so full of life even at her age and she has the wickedest sense of humour.

i think that this definately is a great use of your time! i bet those gifts will be well appreciated in the future! maybe your hobby could earn you some cash! i bet a lot of mums would love those things that you make!

    • It is so good for relaxation and I do love to have busy hands and knitting is perfect for me! Sounds like you had a lovely relationship learning from this lady. It is a skill you will quickly remember. I hope these knitted items are treasured as they are made and given with love.
