Hello!

i was visiting my adult niece the other day. It was a school, day yet her school age children were at home. They didn’t look sick, so I asked why they were home. It’s the governments fault apparently. They don’t pay my niece and her hubby enough (they’re both on Centrelink payments, no study and no jobs on the horizon) money to be able to buy enough food. There simply was no food to put in the kids lunch boxes and no money to buy more. It was a regular, fortnightly occurrence. She was telling me this as she finished smoking bongs, then sat down with a can of Jack Daniels pre mix and lit up,a cigarette. Hubby was on the couch with his can and ciggy playing the XBox. I was shocked! I gave them a serve and left. How could they be so selfish!?

  • oh that is really sad. i would go without food if it meant my babies were full! my gosh, these people need some help to get on the right track and if they don’t change, well they should have harder consequences. it is such a shame that the kids are affected by this. very sad situation. a lot of kids that get taken from parents, get housed elsewhere, get fed etc but don’t get that love that they need and that is just as sad. They go from one sad situation to another! it is a quick fix but leaves these poor kids broken! i will pray for your niece. Good luck!

  • Sorry to say, they are terrible parents who should take a good long hard look at themselves. I am disgusted and can’t believe they have no regard for their kids welfare, education or future. I think I’d be asking social services to step in for the sake of the kids.

    • Social services are involved. They had all their kids taken from them a few years ago. They’ve slowly been allowed to have them back, 1 by 1. There’s just 1 more little boy they haven’t got back, but have regular visits. The conditions of getting their other kids back were 1. Get off the drugs. 2. Get off the alcohol. 3. They must attend school regularly, and this was spose to be monitored. 4. Get help for gambling problems. 5. Get help with budgeting your money.
How can they be like this and be monitored by welfare? I don’t understand. More kids falling through the cracks for lack of resources

  • All i can say is people like this dont deserve the love from their child, The price of their fix and slab of daniels and smokes would feed the kids for a forthnight. I would report them. Just be prepared for the fall out of them looking to blame people. I bet the school already has their suspisions about the parents.( i know my kids school gives the kids fruit or makes a sandwich if you do forget, i have only ever forgotten once, he left his lunch box on the table) Kids turn out worse than their parents if left in that situation. My heart breaks for the poor kids.

  • It would be kinder to notify DOCS if these kids are hungry, at least they would then be looked after properly. The parents sound like they need a big wake up call!

  • It is mandatory for children to attend school and schools do monitor and follow up on absenteeism. Many schools are aware of children not being adequately fed and often provide food for children. Our schools are wonderful in providing more than just education.

    • Schools have counsellors that do work with families too.

  • That is very sad. Their priorities are obviously in the wrong place. She may have said that to try and get money off you
