Hello!

So this year we decided we would like to update our kitchen. The process started at the beginning of the year with some selections of colour, cabinets, tops etc. After having our plans drawn up we decided to advertise our existing cabinets, which is a great thing. But…. yes there it is…They took the cabinets six weeks ago, we have had some delays and here we are still living with a BBQ and camp gas burner in the kitchen, we still have 4-5 weeks wait on all the rest of the processes.

What I have learnt is I have many different machines that I can cook with and I have been pleasantly surprised on what I can achieve. I have made full roasts, baking, pot meals…all with out an oven. Its definitely been a challenge and I just want people to know that it can be done :)

  • Imagine what luxury you will feel you are living in once you have your kitchen back.

  • With lots of power outages a regular event here, I too have had to get creative with cooking. At least you get a beautiful new kitchen at the end of it all

  • Sounds like you’ll be ready for some great camp cooking should you ever “do a lap”!

  • We did a 6 month lap of aust and all we used was a camp stove. We managed to make roasts and pizzas as well as cakes in a fry pan. A little creative thinking and you can achieve lots!

  • Thanks for posting this – we are about to embark on getting our kitchen done and at some point we will need to have a camp kitchen set up outside. I’m pretty nervous about it all in terms of what I can cook and what my kids will eat. Have you got any go to meals that were easy to do?!!

    • Your simple foods like spaghetti Bolognese, tuna mornay are always easy.

But I have learned that I can roast veggies in an electric fry pan and meatloaf in my slow cooker. I have also been making deserts (normally don’t) and I have a tefal steamer and I have done steamed apples and microwaved custard.

You just have to think ahead because just throwing something in the oven cannot just happen.

      Good luck ????

  • We have done something similar and it was actually good fun. As much as I love my gadgets you can get by without them, just have to be creative.

    • It does make you appreciate your kitchen! :)
