My three year old daughter and I were walking through a car park. She was dawdling and picked up a stick, I thought I will let it go and take the stick off her when I get her in the car. As she was getting in the car she poked the stick straight into her eye ball. She cried for 20 minutes but her eye seemed ok. However, I took her to the doctors to get it checked as there was a bit of gunk coming from her eye. It turns out she has a superficial scratch on her eye ball and an infected eye. Getting her to sit still whilst the doctor put a dye in her eye was horrible and she now says “she never wants to go to the doctors ever again”. Putting the eye drops in has been horrific, she shuts herself in her room and runs away from me screaming. Each time I have to put the eye drops in I feel terrible and guilty, if only I had taken the stick off her before we got to the car. It doesn’t help that she tells me she doesn’t love me Mummy when I put the drops in. Those words always cut deep, however, she tells me she loves me afterwards.
