When we first met our mums group 8 years ago, I remember the maternal health nurse giving us odds about how many women get breast cancer and depression. We never thought that these would be issues that faced us. We have been lucky that most mums and kids in our group got along – from all walks of life – different ages (from 20s to 40s) and different backgrounds. We continued to meet through feeding, toilet training, differing mums opinions. starting school and going back to work. Only 2 dropped out along the way. Our group met regularly thought the first 6 years and now a little more irregularly. But we try and catch up for a regular Christmas get together. We have been through thick and thin, through divorces, IVF, stillborn baby, illness, bankruptcy, learning difficulties, allergies, autism, career changes, depression and anxiety, more babies. But it is great to know that whenever we catch up – we pick up where we left off previously. We are lucky that we will always have some other mums and families that we can rely on. Truly blessed to have these other mums in our lives.
