Hello!

I am a library junkie. I know, it makes me sound like the biggest nerd alive, but if I don’t get my library fix at least once a week, there is hell to pay. I never miss a baby rhyme time session, and if I loan any less then 20 books at a time I can feel myself getting antsy. The reason I want to post this is because, for the first time in my 6 year library membership I have lost a book. In particular, The Little Mermaid by Hans Christian Anderson and I am pretty sure I brought it back but the library missed scanning it in. But still, I figure $14.50 is a pretty good deal for literally thousands of books borrowed for free over the years! If any of you have been neglecting the library for a while, it’s time to go back, because they offer so many fun activities for kids in a safe and friendly environment – gone are the days when you have to keep your kids quiet in the library – these days they just seem happy you are there. Every school holidays they host different art and craft and little learning activities. I know it’s not the same at all libraries but it’s definitely an untapped resource with many of the mothers I know. Oh, and they always have loads of great dvd’s (and kids ones too!) so you can also save money from the video store! OK, before the library take out a restraining order against me, I’ll leave it there, but google your local library and you won’t be sorry!

  • That is a lot of books to borrow. I used to take the kids to the local library too and it was just five minutes drive from home . They even had a very small area with swings and slipperly dip which they played either or before we go inside just for the fun of it . Now they have to go to the school libraries to do serious studying for either uni or high school .

  • This made me giggle as my daughter – also Lauren – is 15 and is addicted to books and our library too! I love that she is. My 4 year old and I are also addicted – and they now have a cafe there – heaven!

  • I can relate to that. Even when we go on holidays the first place our family goes is the library. To check out what they have got. Heaps of activities. The renmark one has got a castle set up in a corner with stairs of seats and another has fairy corners. I like to see the latest releases in books. The only thing that country libraries dont have the funding like city ones. My punishment was that i was going to bring the library home one day. I reallytried to though. Now my children still visit libraries

  • Libraries are such great resources. They don’t just have books either.

  • Hi Lauren, my name is Selina and I too, am a library-aholic. It’s been 6 hours since I last visited the library. We borrowed the maximum number of books allowed due to the upcoming school holidays. We have audio books and cds for the long car trips and books for all ages for everyone in the family – for free!

  • I can’t! I have always loved books – I currently have around 3000, not counting the boxes and boxes in storage. My problem is I cannot give them back! So I never borrow a book from a friend or a library as it is a real wrench giving it up…

  • Hi Lauren,my name is Sandi & like you I am addicted to the library too. I used to take my children for story time, I borrow book after book, use the pc’s. call me old fashioned but I much prefer to read a book in book form & not IPad form, I like to turn the pages, smell the book, hold it close to me. I hope library’s don’t become non existent :)
