Hello!

My husband smokes pot and I hate it. he’s being doing it since before I meet him (12 yrs ago), but lately (the last year or so) he smokes everyday. he’s not stonned or anything. it helps him relax. The issues I have Is that its illegal, costs a lot of money (he spends at least $100 a week) and bad for his health (chronic asthma). he lies about his where about too, often coming home late or going out straight after the kids are in bed.
when he comes home he pigs out (not good as he is obese) and then falls asleep on the lounge (also not good as he has apnoea.)
I keep asking him to quit but he refuses. its putting a great strain on my relationship with him. he wonders why I don’t want to be intimate with him.

he has a few other issues going on to and has agreed to see a psychologist. im hoping things will change.

  • If this has been going on for 12 years then it is unlikely to change unless something makes him change. He won’t stop because you are nagging him to stop and this will only cause more frustration for you., you will need a more subtle approach. My grandma used to say, if you can’t blind them with one eye, blind them with the other!! You need to start doing things for yourself and empowering yourself. When he sees that you are happy and getting on with things and not focussing on the problem, he will wonder why he is not getting a reaction. At the same time you will be doing something for yourself.

  • I guess, sometimes when you allow it for so long, they don’t see the problem with it when you say something about it. Hopefully he can eventually see the money he could be saving if he wasn’t on it… and then help his health by being active, and eating healthy too!

  • It sounds like he has lots of problems. The illegality is a big issue and you may need to think about the consequences for yourself, too.
