Hello!

My elderly neighbour is sick at the moment, so we are walking her dog and dropping off meals. I mentioned this to a friend of mine and was quite surprised when she said she’d only ever waved at her neighbours and that she’d never had a conversation with them, let alone knew their names! It left me feeling a bit sad that some of us don’t even know who lives next door.

  • It is good to get to know your neighbours at least to be able to have a quick conversation – even just on subjects of mutual interest. I loved it when we could just say hello as we passed as we were leaving or arriving home at the same time. We respected each other’s privacy. We made a pact that we would help each other when needed. In very hot weather we would make sure all of us were OK. If we didn’t see or hear each other for a few days. one of us would check on the other one.

  • We work day and night and only recently have we settled down a little bit . I always wave or smile if I see them especially during the days when rushing to work . You don’t have to talk but just acknowledging each other is good enough for me . I also volunteer locally so that helps with being less isolated within the community and doing something rewarding at the same time .
