Hello!

Every summer we are very aware the area we live in is bushfire prone.

So at the start of summer I pack a bag, put valuables into storage, and I am ready to go at a moments notice.

This was not so easy organising with a nearly 3 yr old! Every time I packed the bag, she unpacked it. I then had to unpack it after she shoved her favourite toy into the bottom. Finally all packed and ready.

Yesterday, we had to evacuate. I got her in the car, had all our papers etc. 30 minutes away, I realised. No point packing the suitcase if you leave it at home!

Luckily we could come home last night, and I have now put the bag in the boot, as will probably have to go again today…..

My biggest worry now though, is if we do lose everything, how do I explain that to her?

  • Hope you have all stayed safe. Fire season is such a scary time. But good on you for having an evacuation plan; so important!

  • great job on being panned, its strange how the mind can let you forget things in a crisis, but its great you put it in the boot, I hope all was well for you

  • I hope you were safe…I used to worry that we’d lose everything too and kept reminding myself that they are only possessions and as long as we were safe we could rebuild.

  • She’s 3 – it’s actually a good thing because she won’t fully realise what’s happened if you lose your stuff. Simply say that a fire came and all the stuff got lost but you will buy some more things later on. Distract her with brainstorming – like – what colour do you like? Maybe you could have a purple room? etc Just make sure you pack that favourite toy :) Anyway good luck and hopefully your home stays safe.
