Father’s Day last year was sad day in our family, another day in a year of firsts. Our youngest son died tragically a few days after Mothers day 2012. Depression led to him taking his own life at age 31.He left two children with aged 8 and 4 with 2 ex partners, who still thankfully communicate with each other and us. He covered his depression up and we did not see the early signs.
The year of firsts was very hard for his partners, children brothers, friends, workmates and us his parents to come to terms with.We all miss him so much, but now it is becoming a little easier to bear by remembering the good happy times as he grow up and knowing that he is watching over us and his children.
The main reason in telling this story is to tell others to keep an eye and ear out for depression in someone close to you, and encourage them to seek professional help.Talk with not at them and don’t put blinkers on and pretend there is no problem.I know that we can never bring him back, but if my story can help prevent a similar grief for another family I will be content
