Everytime I go to a shopping centre (doesn’t matter which one) I always try to find any available parking spots which are designated to parents with prams, but lately all I ever see are other cars parked in these spots who do not have any car seats in the cars and or prams to get out of the boot!!
I get angry when I see this because then I have to find another car park where it’s hard to get my daughter out of the car and the pram out of the boot, and I risk hitting the car parked next to me with my door.
What makes it worse is that I drive a 4×4 because I don’t like small cars.
I don’t want the carspot because it’s closer to the shopping centre doors, it’s because it’s so much easier to get my daughter in and out of the car without hitting the car next to me, I can put the shopping and the pram in the boot without any hassles and I can safely drive in and out of the car parks.
The other day I was in a shopping centre (Underground Carpark ) and there was a young male P plater sitting in his 2 door sporty BMW with his girlfriend parked in a parents with prams carpark Smoking Ciggarettes and talking to each other and when I walked past I noticed the car didn’t even have a back seat but what made matters worse was because they were smoking and In Victoria it’s actally illegal to smoke in underground car parks for one but because he was in a Carpark designated for people with children is what made me really angry. Other people with prams and children walked past them as well and In the end I got that mad I actually walked back and yelled at him because it’s just the wrong thing to do.
I think that people who don’t have kids or prams who park in these carparks should be fined because to me it’s like parking in a disabled Carpark without having the permit.

  • It is true, very selfish behaviour and needy people are left out . . I think they can get away with it as there is no security controlling the carparks. Perhaps make a complaint to the shopping centre and see if they can up the security . They do pay for the spots .

  • I know how you feel. I am constantly frustrated but the smoke where you are not allowed too and in an area for children now that would have made me mad as well!!

  • May I also suggest visiting the concierge desk or centre management and make them aware of the problem..they do have security and can arrange for them to keep a better eye out. All the best to you and bub. :-)

  • It is frustrating that people seem to think that they are entitled to do whatever they want. Good on you for saying something

  • i think it is great that you stood up for the mothers and that is one less person who will park in those spots lol

  • Yeap a lot of people just do not care anymore its all for ones-self now days. As a person with a disability card I could tell you some stories

  • I have never ever seen shopping centre car parks be policed by parking inspectors.

  • Are you aware that disabled drivers/sticker holders are allowed to park in baby/pram car spaces if their parks are unavailable. The disabled person has that right so be careful not to abuse them if you don’t see a pram or baby get out!

    • I didn’t know that. That’s good information that can be passed on. I work in an area where that information will come in handy for me to pass on to people who may find it difficult to access disability parking. I live in a large regional city that has expanded, and although the parking has gotten better there is still room for improvement.

  • The parking issue is quite complicated.
Car parking spaces seem be smaller too. Well they must be by the numerous dents on my vehicle!

  • Well, it’s true I find it very annoying when people without children park in the parents’ spot, as it is a safety issue, and it’s selfish. But I also get annoyed by people who drive 4×4’s in the city (unless of course they live in the country and are just visiting). They obstruct other drivers’ views, they’re more likely to run over small children because they can’t see them, and they use unnecessary resources. I also see this as an issue of safety and selfishness.

    • Yes so do I. I find it to be a safety issue particularly when you are trying to see past them to make a turn or even monitor the colour of the traffic light. I see the issue of the pram parking, but I also agree with the safety concerns regarding 4 x 4’s in larger non rural areas.
