Hello!

My daughter didn’t walk until she was 3, due to global delays related to her having Down syndrome. We were at the pool yesterday, playing after her swimming lesson. She’s 6 now and watching her confidence in the water really brought home to me how much she has progressed. She’s never going to catch up to the children in her class but she’s progressing along at her own pace, mastering new skills slowly but surely. After 1 year of swimming lessons she can kick about 3 metres by herself. She’s sinking the whole time and it’s a struggle to get to the side but the important thing is she loves doing it and tries very hard. She’s so confident in the water, which gives me hope that we’ll have her swimming at her first school carnival in about 2 years’ time!

  • My niece also has Down syndrome and it’s amazing her determination when she wants to do something.

  • That is wonderful to hear! You must be so proud :) Being a parent of a special needs child myself, it is those little things that make you smile and make little tears of love and pride appear. I am truly happy for you xx

  • As a parent, we can only try our hardest to help our children in every facets of life regardless of their weakness or strength. I hope all the very best for your family. Persistence will pay off I’m sure.
